Solid Waste Engineer/Project Manager

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Solid Waste Engineer/Project Manager to join our team at Civil and Environmental Consultants. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, analyzing, permitting, and preparing drawings and technical specifications for solid waste disposal facilities, including coal combustion residual (CCR) facilities, and industrial facilities.

You will work closely with clients, contractors, and local government officials to impact the entire project from conceptual and design phases, through the regulatory permitting and review process, bidding, and construction. Your expertise will be essential in leading younger staff and mentoring them, reviewing their work, and collaboratively delivering projects.

Responsibilities
  • Design, analysis, permitting, and preparation of drawings and technical specifications for solid waste, CCR, and other industrial waste management facilities
  • General civil/environmental engineering duties, including grading and hydrology
  • Design of all aspects of landfills, including single and double composite liner systems, leachate conveyance and storage facilities, stormwater conveyance and storage facilities, landfill gas collection/treatment systems, on-site roadways, and ancillary buildings and structures
  • Develop permit application documents, contract drawings, specifications, and estimates for landfills, transfer stations, landfill gas to energy facilities, and recycling facilities
  • Preparation of engineering design reports, feasibility studies, and solid waste management plans
  • Review of projects for compliance with plans/specifications
Requirements
  • 10+ years' experience in the design, permitting, document preparation, and CQA of waste disposal facilities
  • Ability to coordinate the regulatory agency review process
  • B.S. in Civil, Geotechnical, or Environmental Engineering (M.S. a plus)
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) Licensure with the ability to secure a P.E. in the State of Tennessee
  • Understanding of business principles of consulting projects and related project delivery tools
  • Strong project management skills and leadership ability
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with demonstrated report and proposal writing skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Autodesk Civil 3D
