About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused individual to join our team as a Cheese Shop Clerk. As a key member of our deli team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and assisting with sales and profit goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and be able to respond to customer inquiries and make suggestions about products
  • Offer product samples to help customers discover new items or products they inquire about
  • Inform customers of Cheese Shop specials and promotions
  • Provide customers with fresh products that they have ordered and the correct portion size to prevent shrink
  • Measure, prepare and mix ingredients according to recipe, using a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment
  • Adequately prepare, package, label and inventory ingredients in merchandise
  • Check product quality to ensure freshness and review "sell by" dates and take appropriate action
  • Label, stock and inventory department merchandise
  • Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager
  • Understand the store's layout and be able to locate products when requested by customers
  • Stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads
  • Maintain an awareness of inventory/stocking conditions and note any discrepancies in inventory
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines
  • Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are maintained
  • Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identify unsafe conditions and notify store management
  • Practice preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and notify appropriate department or store manager of any items in need of repair
  • Notify management of customer or employee accidents
  • Report all safety risks or issues and illegal activity, including: robbery, theft or fraud to store management
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a high-paced and sometimes stressful environment
  • Ability to manage conflict in a reasonable, non-confrontational and cooperative manner
  • Ability to act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information
  • Ability to follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues
  • Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation
Requirements
  • Effective communication skills
  • Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction)
  • Ability to handle stressful situations
