Leading Educational Research Expert

The Assistant Director of Doctoral Research will serve as a co-author and mentor to students, supporting them in conducting and publishing research. This role requires flexible hours, as doctoral students typically work during the day.

Mentorship:

  • Biweekly or weekly individual meetings with students and advisors
  • Research labs (weekly or biweekly) with all advisees
  • Serves as chair of the dissertation committee
  • Reviews and assists in IRB applications
  • Reviews and assists in publication readiness
  • Reviews and assists in professional presentations development
  • Ensures professional development in areas of desired expertise
  • Monitors professional organizations, call for submission, and presentation opportunities that align with student interests
  • Discipline-specific mentorship in identified degree requirements

Committee Participation:

Each Assistant Director of Research will serve on committees as requested/needed both within their department and across the college.

Committee membership includes reading dissertation drafts, attending research proposal defenses, and participating in final defenses.

Teaching:

Each Assistant Director of Research will teach 4 courses annually, at least 2 of which will be doctoral. The remaining 2 courses can be either degree requirements or other departmental needs.

Research and Scholarship:

Each Assistant Director of Research will engage in professional dissemination, including presentations, publications, and podcasts. This will be determined within each discipline and evaluated annually. The Assistant Director of Research will also monitor professional organizations, call for submission, and presentation opportunities that align with student interests.

Qualifications:

  • Doctorate Required
  • Prior higher education experience preferred
  • Proven publishing record
  • Published research
  • Knowledge of various research methodologies
  • Previous experience in assessing quality of writing
  • Previous experience in mentoring teacher candidates or teachers
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a range of stakeholders
  • Familiarity with online course platforms, LMS, data systems
  • Familiarity with Google Suite including Calendar, Sheets, Docs, and Folders
