Job Summary

The Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) at North Carolina A&T State University is responsible for planning, executing, and evaluating effective and comprehensive family and consumer sciences programs that meet the needs of the county's limited resource population and align with the mission and vision of the Cooperative Extension Program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, manage, and deliver programs that include non-formal education and training with an emphasis on community development regarding urban agriculture and local food systems.
  • Collaborate with county and community-based organizations to deliver innovative experiential learning and outreach programs.
  • Determine program needs and priorities by conducting needs assessments.
  • Evaluate data collected from multiple sources, including advisory committee members, county residents, and program participants.
  • Provide classes, workshops, training, and consultations on financial education, career readiness, business development, digital skills, and resource acquisition to youth and adults.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in family and consumer sciences, child or human development, nutrition, or a related field of study, or a bachelor's degree in these or related fields with 3 years of work experience in Extension or working/teaching in diverse communities.
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Ability to work and interact with diverse populations.
  • Computer literacy (proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Office).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple demands and set priorities.
  • Valid Driver's license and personal transportation.
  • Ability to travel and work after hours/weekends as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a field related to family and consumer sciences.
  • Experience planning programs and working in diverse communities.
  • Experience working effectively as a team member.
  • Ability to manage time and resources.
  • Experience and knowledge in mass media, marketing, and presentations.
  • Skills in leadership, budgeting, and public relations.
