Position Overview
The primary role of the Practical Nurse is to deliver essential care to designated residents under the guidance and oversight of the attending physicians or the Medical Director. This position focuses on assessment, monitoring, data collection, illness prevention, and management of health care.

Key Responsibilities
As a Practical Nurse, you will be entrusted with the administrative authority and accountability required to fulfill your responsibilities effectively. Your duties will include:

  • Collaborating with the Medical Director and attending physicians regarding the care of assigned residents.
  • Conducting evaluations and assisting in the planning and development of nursing services tailored to resident needs.
  • Initiating consultations and responding to inquiries from residents, physicians, and nursing staff.
  • Performing thorough assessments to identify normal and abnormal findings, enabling early detection of serious health issues.
  • Maintaining accurate medical records and documentation related to resident care.

Committee Participation
Engage actively in interdisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive care plans and provide reports on resident status as needed. You will also participate in various committees to enhance the quality of care and address any identified deficiencies.

Medical Care Functions
In this role, you will:

  • Welcome residents and provide orientation to the facility.
  • Offer education to residents and families regarding their rights and care processes.
  • Conduct physical examinations and document findings accurately.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests to assess residents' health needs.
  • Administer therapeutic services and manage minor health issues.

Professional Development
Participate in ongoing training and educational programs to stay current with best practices in nursing and enhance your skills. You will also assist in developing training initiatives for staff and community education.

Safety and Compliance
Ensure compliance with safety protocols and maintain a safe environment for residents and staff. This includes monitoring inventory of medical supplies and equipment, as well as participating in infection control measures.

Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you must possess:

  • A current, unencumbered license to practice as a Practical Nurse.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
  • Knowledge of nursing practices and regulations relevant to long-term care.
  • Compassion and patience when dealing with residents and their families.
