DAP is seeking a dedicated Product Support Scientist to join our Research and Development Department.
In this role, you will support Operations, Sales, and Marketing by exploring raw material alternatives, achieving cost efficiencies, enhancing product quality, and conducting product evaluations. This is an entry-level position that reports directly to the R&D Director of Product Support. Your specific duties will include:
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in projects aimed at reducing costs or enhancing processes, qualifying new raw materials, and creating analytical and mechanical testing methodologies.
- Collaborate with the Product Support team and plant engineers/quality control managers to establish manufacturing capabilities and procedures for both new and existing products.
- Work closely with DAP associates to support sales and marketing efforts through competitive product benchmarking.
- Conduct plant trials to validate new formulations and raw materials.
- Perform analytical testing and compile data according to industry standards and internally developed testing protocols.
- Advocate for and uphold laboratory safety, cleanliness, and preventive maintenance practices.
- Engage in the functions of the Laboratory Quality Management System.
- Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
- A strong enthusiasm for chemistry, scientific inquiry, problem-solving, and innovative thinking.
- Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- A wide-ranging technical knowledge and a strong desire to learn from colleagues.
- Demonstrated innovative abilities characterized by risk-taking, results orientation, and idea integration.
- Hands-on experience with various chemistries (latex, moisture curing, reactive, etc.) in sealants, adhesives, coatings, or related fields.
- Bench chemistry experience and familiarity with various analytical techniques such as wet chemistry, titrations, microscopy, rheology, thermal analysis, and tensile testing.
- Experience operating laboratory-scale mixing equipment and analytical testing apparatus.
