Nursing Assistant

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Nursing Assistant to join our team at the Long Island State Veterans Home. As a Nursing Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to our residents, working under the supervision of a RN/LPN. Your interactions with residents will be frequent, and you will be responsible for attending to their daily living activities, personal, hygienic, and simple human needs.
Key Responsibilities
• Attend to daily living activities, personal, hygienic, and simple human needs to maintain a comfortable and respectful environment for residents.
• Move, position, lift, and transport residents using various lifts and aids to make them more comfortable and prepare them for treatment.
• Talk and listen to residents, encouraging them to cooperate and participate in treatment activities to help them achieve positive attitudes.
• Transport residents and supplies as needed.
• Maintain residents' rights, dignity, and confidentiality.
• Perform housekeeping and cleaning duties related to direct care to ensure the facility is clean, sanitary, and properly supplied.
• Participate in required quarterly in-service education to maintain certification and meet re-certification requirements.
Requirements
• NYS Nurse Aide Certification.
• One year of healthcare experience.
• One year of long-term care experience.
• Excellent computer skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Working Conditions
This role may involve exposure to infectious diseases, blood, body fluids, and other unpleasant elements. You may be required to handle emergency and crisis situations, and work irregular hours due to multiple calls and inquiries.
The Long Island State Veterans Home is a 24/7 skilled nursing facility, and all positions are subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary. Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:
- Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from the Long Island State Veterans Home Employee Health Department
- Meet regulatory requirements for pre-employment screening.
- Submit three (3) written references.
- Provide a copy of the required license(s)/certificate(s).
