The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a part-time Heavy Equipment Operator Instructor to join our team in the School of Career and Corporate Training. As a Heavy Equipment Operator Instructor, you will be responsible for instructing students in heavy equipment operation and performing both lecture/simulation in a classroom setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instruct students in heavy equipment operation and perform both lecture/simulation in a classroom setting.
  • Be trained by a National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) Master Teacher and use the NCCER Heavy Equipment Operators Curriculum.
  • Participate in program assessment and assist in all other instructor-related duties to support the program and the CCT department.
  • Use computer software, such as Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as online applications.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience as a heavy equipment operator, operating modern heavy equipment used in the construction industry.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance, safety, soils, print reading, grade work, and supervision.
  • Experience using computer software, such as Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as online applications.
  • Must complete the applicable National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) training and credentials in CORE and HEO Level 1 within 3 months of hire.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to write syllabi and exams.
  • Ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments.
  • Ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience training on Caterpillar Simulators.
  • Experience training on equipment operation at off-campus sites with heavy equipment.
  • Associate's degree in a Career and Technical Education field.
  • NCCER or related credentials.
  • OSHA 30 for Construction.
  • Classroom HEO instruction experience, providing instruction in accelerated formats geared towards certification exam preparation.
  • Demonstrated track record of high level of student credential and institutional outcomes with the ability to deliver instruction in the classroom and in lab environments.
  • Experience using CAT simulation software and Learning Management Systems such as Canvas.
