Job Summary

Amergis is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Professional to join our team. As a Special Education Professional, you will play a vital role in providing quality services to students with special needs, kindergarten through grade 12.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop Student Education Plans: Collaborate with parents and department team members to prepare student education plans that cater to individual needs.
  • Support Student Learning: Provide learning support to students with a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities.
  • Design Instruction: Create individual and small group instruction that parallels the general education curriculum.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Assist parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and professionals in developing educational plans that promote students' educational, physical, and social development.
  • Prepare Classrooms: Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
  • Coordinate IEP Implementation: Serve as the coordinator of individualized education program (IEP) implementation with general education staff.
  • Monitor Student Progress: Monitor student progress, participate in review and revision of student's IEP, as appropriate.
  • Maintain Accurate Records: Maintain accurate student records.
  • Mentor Teaching Assistants: Mentor and support teaching assistants who provide support to students with disabilities.
  • Support Student Transitions: Support students in preparation for grade transitions and preparing for life skills.
  • Assess Student Skills: Assess students' skills and educational needs and track student's performance.
  • Communicate with Stakeholders: Discuss students' progress with their other teachers and communicate with parents to maintain positive relationships.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university preferred.
  • Certification: Valid state teaching certificate as required by state, contract/district regulations.
  • Experience: Minimum of one year experience in teaching environment preferred.
  • Certification: State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Elementary Teaching preferred.
  • Certification: State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Secondary Teaching preferred.
  • Certification: State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Special Teaching preferred.
  • Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) preferred.
  • Professional Standards: Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Training: Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
  • Health and Safety: Current CPR if applicable, TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable, Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
  • Confidentiality: Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language required.
  • Computer Skills: Computer proficiency required.
  • Age: Must be at least 18 years of age.
