Job Title: Licensed Mental Health Counselor

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Licensed Mental Health Counselor to join our team at West Hawaii Community Health Center. As a key member of our Behavioral Health department, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality mental health services to our patients.

Job Summary:

The Licensed Mental Health Counselor will work under the general direction of the Behavioral Health Director to counsel individuals and groups, promoting and maintaining optimum mental health. You will help our patients deal with various issues, including thoughts of suicide, addictions, family problems, stress management, self-esteem, and mental health concerns.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Counsel patients individually and in group sessions to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, and making changes.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient records and adhere to state and federal guidelines for documentation.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge.
  • Act as a patient advocate to coordinate required services or resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.
  • Refer patients to appropriate internal or external providers and resources for further treatment or assistance.
Requirements:
  • Master's or doctoral degree from an accredited educational institution in counseling or an allied field.
  • Valid Hawai'i Mental Health Counselor license required and must be maintained during employment.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of post-degree clinical experience preferred.

  • Technology: Be adept at utilizing Microsoft Office and learn new skills in adjacent electronic health record systems.
Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance, individual differences in ability, personality, and interests, learning and motivation, psychological research methods, and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, and for career counseling and guidance.
  • Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, human migrations, ethnicity, and cultures and their history and origins.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting, listening, and observing or working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
