Position Summary:

The Manufacturing Engineer II is tasked with ensuring the effective operation of manufacturing processes within our facility. This role involves creating project plans, conducting utilization studies, identifying capacity requirements, and recommending enhancements. The engineer will optimize efficiency by analyzing equipment layouts, workflows, assembly techniques, and workforce utilization. Responsibilities also include determining necessary parts and tools to meet manufacturing objectives aligned with product specifications. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of standard practices and procedures in the optics manufacturing sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the product development cycle.
  • Collaborate with design engineering and production teams to plan and execute prototype builds.
  • Review technical drawings for appropriate tolerances.
  • Coordinate the implementation of suitable tooling.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of build methods.
  • Develop and execute testing plans.
  • Analyze testing outcomes, including optical and environmental performance metrics.
  • Assist in preparing quotes.
  • Address production challenges in Cleanroom Assembly or Electro-Assembly as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Highly motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Experience in optical assembly techniques.
  • Familiarity with prototype development, including reading technical drawings and creating work instructions.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) methods.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling software, preferably Solidworks, or experience with optical design modeling tools such as Zemax.
  • Experience in customer interactions.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 standards is a plus.
  • Knowledge of ITAR regulations and compliance in optics, mechanics, quality assurance, and testing is preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents, and communicate effectively with team members and management.

Educational Background: A bachelor's degree is required, with a preference for optics or mechanical engineering.

Mathematical Skills: Proficiency in applying advanced mathematical concepts.

Additional Requirements: In accordance with ITAR and EAR regulations, applicants must be U.S. Persons as defined by U.S. law.

Work Environment:

  • May involve exposure to oils and solvents.
  • Work is typically conducted in a clean environment, with a focus on maintaining cleanliness.
  • Safety glasses are mandatory.
  • Position may require specific safety training.
  • Work is performed in a manufacturing setting with a generally loud noise level.
  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and airborne particles.
