Position Overview:
The City of Dover is in search of a qualified individual to undertake proficient mechanical tasks in the upkeep and repair of both gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles as well as heavy machinery.

This is a full-time role, requiring 40 hours per week, and includes a comprehensive benefits package. The hourly wage ranges from $24.42 to $35.42.

Key Responsibilities:
1.

Conduct overhauls, adjustments, maintenance, and repairs on motor-driven machinery including cars, trucks, graders, tractors, sweepers, loaders, and similar mechanical apparatus; install or construct specialized accessory equipment and attachments.

2.

Execute significant repairs by disassembling, replacing worn or damaged components, and reassembling and fine-tuning gasoline and diesel engines, clutches, transmissions, drive trains, suspension systems, electrical and ignition systems, brakes, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, cooling systems, exhaust and pollution control devices, and accessory power equipment.

3. Utilize computer systems for diagnosing or troubleshooting fault codes on any equipment with internal computer-based controls. 4.

Perform both minor and major tune-ups of electrical and fuel systems, employing appropriate testing and repair tools.

5. Address emergency repairs of equipment at job sites or equipment locations as necessary. 6.

Weld and modify machinery and fabricate parts and devices as required or directed. Create and install specialized equipment for other departments.

7.

Install lights, light brackets, mirrors, and other accessories; replace snowplowing and sanding equipment as needed.

8.

Maintain digital Fleet Maintenance records by promptly submitting repair information upon job completion.

9.

Operate vehicles and machinery as necessary to ensure proper functionality.

10.

May conduct regularly scheduled maintenance on vehicles, including oil changes, lubrication, tire changes, and other service tasks as required.

11.

Occasionally repair small engines.

12.

Remain available when called upon to address emergency situations.

13.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, other departments, agencies, and the public.

14.

Adhere to and execute safe work procedures associated with assigned tasks.

15.

Maintain accurate computerized work logs, repair orders, and maintenance records.

16.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Thorough understanding of standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment utilized in the maintenance and repair of heavy-duty gasoline and diesel engines/machinery. Proficient knowledge of hydraulic systems, electrical systems, accessory power equipment, and welding and metal fabrication. Skilled in the use of mechanic's tools, materials, and equipment. Ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions, technical manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics. Capable of diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues and determining necessary parts and adjustments for repair. Ability to advise equipment operators on technical and mechanical challenges. Competent in maintaining computerized work order systems. Ability to perform strenuous physical labor in various indoor and outdoor conditions.

Education/Certification Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent. A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the repair of heavy-duty gasoline and diesel engines/machinery. Extensive training in welding, electrical, and fuel systems. Valid CDL-B with air brake endorsement. ASE certification and NH Vehicle Inspection license are required.
