Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant-Float is an unlicensed medical professional who will perform routine administrative and clinical tasks to ensure the smooth operation of our medical centers. This role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Measure and record patient vital signs
  • Record patient interview and medical history
  • Catalog and communicate patient needs to the PCP, Clinician, Specialist, and/or other clinical personnel
  • Prepare patients for examinations and perform routine screening tests
  • Assist physician with exams and explain treatment procedures and physicians' instructions to patients
  • Observe patients and report any changes in patient conditions to the PCP, Clinician, Specialist, and/or other clinical personnel
  • Perform non-critical medical and therapeutic procedures based on medical instructions
  • Collect phlebotomy and other lab specimens and perform basic waived lab tests
  • Prepare and administer medications, change dressings, apply bandages, remove sutures, and perform other first aid procedures under physician supervision
  • Maintain supplies, equipment, stocks, and sterilize instruments
  • Practice OSHA safety standards and perform accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times
  • Process patient phone messages, return calls, and route them to other team members as appropriate
  • Call patients to obtain and relay pertinent information for the physician
  • Use communication skills with appropriate medical terminology and follow legal and ethical professional conduct
  • Provide health coaching to a defined group of patients to support healthy lifestyle choices and follow up with coached patients via weekly calls
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent education (GED) required
  • Graduation from a nationally accredited Medical Assistant program or comparable healthcare vocational training required
  • A minimum of 1 year of work experience as a Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician, or similar in a hospital, medical clinic, or comparable environment required
  • Experience working with geriatric patients is a plus
  • EMR system experience preferred
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AMA) or American Red Cross required within the first 90 days of employment
