Job Summary

The University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics is seeking a highly skilled Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator to support ongoing and new clinical research studies for the Division of Neonatology. This role will involve performing skilled clinical/healthcare research activities in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), screening patients for study eligibility, and educating patient families on study requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform clinical research activities in the NICU, including subject recruitment and enrollment.
  • Screen patients for study eligibility and consent for clinical trials.
  • Monitor randomizations into studies and perform protocol-driven procedures.
  • Supervise ordering of study medication and schedule study medication.
  • Oversee the recruitment of subjects and scheduling of trial-related procedures.
  • Prepare study recruitment materials and relay study information to the principal investigator.
  • Obtain and process human blood and tissue samples.
  • Counsel patient families regarding the intent of the studies.
Requirements
  • A Master's degree in Nursing or an equivalent combination of education and related NICU experience.
  • 1-3 years of previous experience working in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
  • A Current, valid Iowa Registered Nurse license.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the Internet.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in a position requiring independent decision-making.
Preferred Qualifications
  • More than 5 years of clinical experience in the NICU.
  • Experience managing and coordinating multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Experience communicating with patient families by phone.
  • 1-3 years of previous experience and participation with clinical trials.
  • Knowledge of IRB guidelines and procedures.
  • Experience with EPIC.
