The Shawnee State University Center for Public History seeks a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Field Applications Specialist. In this role, you will facilitate community outreach and assist with the development of historical site applications for the National Park Service's National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom program.
As a Field Applications Specialist, you will work closely with the Director and/or Assistant Director of Research and Outreach to identify, research, and document the history of Underground Railroad related historical sites in the tri-state region of OH-KY-WV. You will also assist with archival work, social media, and other communication and outreach initiatives.
This is a collaborative position that reports to the Director or Assistant Director of Research and Outreach. Applications will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis for this position.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct research and documentary work on Underground Railroad historical sites
- Work with the Director and/or Assistant Director of Research and Outreach to secure needed documentation to establish the authenticity and significance of historical sites associated with the Underground Railroad in the tri-state region of OH-KY-WV
- Generate bibliographies of primary and secondary sources, photographic images, and oral history interviews of the descendants of Freedom Seekers and their allies
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (History, Communications, Journalism, Museum Studies degree preferred)
- Or successful completion of at least 16 semester hours or equivalent in history or related field from an accredited college, university, trade, technical or vocational school beyond high school level
- Or possess at least three years' experience in other writing and storytelling-centered equivalent that required working productively with public audiences and subject matter experts
- Must have a valid driver's license
