Key Responsibilities:
- Assists in various obstetric procedures, including cesarean sections, vaginal deliveries, vacuum extractions, forceps deliveries, tubal ligations, dilation and curettage (D&C), circumcisions, and emergency OB-related abdominal hysterectomies. Maintains comprehensive knowledge of setups for each procedure.
- Participates in surgical procedures by applying aseptic techniques to maintain a sterile environment, preparing necessary materials and equipment, assisting with gowning and gloving, draping sterile areas, and passing instruments and supplies.
- Supports delivery procedures by preparing the area according to the obstetric provider's preferences.
- Engages in direct patient care activities, addressing daily living needs, comfort, and safety.
- Acts as a resource for training technicians, nursing staff, and others in the proper use of equipment and procedures.
- Maintains inventory of sterile surgical supplies and instruments, ensuring the unit is ready for emergencies.
- Responsible for the maintenance, cleaning, and stocking of equipment.
- Documents and reports accurate and timely information regarding patient conditions to the appropriate personnel.
- Collaborates with operating room staff, clinical nurse specialists, educators, and peers in preparation for equipment and procedure implementation and emergency situations.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care, understanding the principles of growth and development across the lifespan, and assessing data reflective of the patient's status.
- Nurse Aide in good standing as indicated by the State Registry.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) must be obtained within 6 months unless exempted by the department leader.
- Completion of an accredited or approved program in Nursing Assistant beyond high school.
- No prior experience necessary.
- Basic computer proficiency, including keyboarding, navigation within a Windows operating system, and use of electronic mail and medical records systems.
- Successful completion of on-the-job training.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, along with strong interpersonal abilities.
- Capacity to build rapport and maintain positive relationships with patients, families, staff, and physicians.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
- Able to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs. overhead, carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance, and push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.
- Must be able to perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with assistance.
- Usage of foot pedals on carts and machines is required.
- Protective clothing must be worn as necessary.
- Exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, blood, and body fluids is expected.
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, lifting, squatting, bending, reaching, and twisting during work shifts is required.
- Functional sight and hearing are necessary.
- Ability to operate all equipment essential for job performance.
