Overview

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems is a leading manufacturer of high-quality gun systems for various applications. We are seeking a highly skilled Sr Principal Automation Engineer to join our team.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in automation engineering, with experience in designing, developing, and testing robotic platforms. They will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand opportunities for robotic applications and develop integrated autonomous interfaces, mobility, communication, and human-robot interaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, and manage automated machinery processes
  • Design, program, simulate, optimize, and test automated machinery to streamline manufacturing processes
  • Use design techniques to build automated systems, including measurement functions, control functions, and actuators
  • Configure systems using Programmable Logic Control (PLC) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) techniques
  • Audit current equipment and automated processes to determine failure rates
  • Model, test, and measure output and data to analyze performance or quality issues
  • Develop solutions to resolve production problems, maximize product reliability, and minimize cost
  • Draft and design detailed technical documentation for design specifications and additional relevant documents
  • Adhere to international and local regulatory standards for design, process, and safety considerations
Requirements
  • Associates Degree in General Engineering or specialized Engineering degree required
  • 10-12 years of experience in automation engineering or related field
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley), HMI development, robotics, CAD software, and simulation tools
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, excellent communication abilities, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
