About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Shelter Advocate to join our team at Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio. As a key member of our crisis intervention team, you will be responsible for providing support and guidance to victims of domestic violence and other vulnerable populations.

The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, empathy, and a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service. You will work closely with our dedicated staff to ensure the well-being and safety of our residents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide emotional support and guidance to shelter residents, addressing their unique needs and concerns.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment within the shelter facility, adhering to strict standards and protocols.
  • Supervise resident service work and encourage full participation in agency services and campus activities.
  • Hold residents accountable for upholding shelter rules and expectations, escalating concerns as necessary.
  • Take accurate attendance records and maintain bed counts to ensure optimal shelter capacity.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent required; experience working with victims of domestic violence or individuals with significant trauma histories preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Flexible schedule and willingness to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Critical thinking, crisis intervention, and problem-solving skills essential for success in this role.

  • Competitive salary: $45,000 - $55,000 per annum (dependent on qualifications and experience).
