General Maintenance and Repair

The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting for a Maintenance Generalist - Journey position at the Anchorage Central Office (ACO) located in Anchorage, Alaska.

What you will be doing:
This position is assigned to the Facilities Capital Improvement Projects Team located in the Anchorage Central Office. The incumbent will be dispatched to travel to various state correctional facilities to assist in the maintenance and repair of infrastructure as needed. Locations include Anchorage, Eagle River, Wasilla, Point Mackenzie, Palmer, Sutton, Fairbanks, Nome, Bethel, Ketchikan, Juneau, Kenai, and Seward.

The working conditions you can expect:
This position offers opportunity to travel to various locations within Alaska and to assist facilities while learning skills in maintaining various institutional systems, such as: plumbing, electrical, commercial appliance equipment repairs and maintenance, electrical door and gate lock repair, mechanical lock services, interior and exterior repair and maintenance, operation of heavy equipment for snow removal and grounds keeping, and vehicle and stationary engine maintenance.

Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

This job class is part of a series of competency based class specifications created for career areas within the Labor, Trades, and Crafts Unit. The class specification identifies the levels of work and wage grades within the career area, the core and specific competencies of the career area, required work behaviors, certifications, and physical requirements. A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN/ACOMS. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
