The role has moderate autonomy, requiring high levels of operational judgment.The Advanced Lead Test Engineer – Flight Test will provide direction and assistance to Flight Test Operation to meet assigned flight test objectives by demonstrating leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for an area or business segment. In this role you will utilize your experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals.Job DescriptionRoles and ResponsibilitiesResponsible for all activities related to flight test definition, planning, and executionCollaborate with Systems, Controls, and other Engineering teams to drive flight test mission, readiness review, and safety planningResponsible for Flight Ops planning and crew coordination, including pre- and post-flight briefing meetingsMaintain open and close communication with FTO team, GE Aerospace internal and external customersExecute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirementsProvide technical leadership to personnel supporting the assigned projectProvide timely communications on significant issues or developmentsParticipate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issuesParticipate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviewsAssure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and proceduresDevelop and implement training modules as necessaryCoach less experienced team membersRequired QualificationsBachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university or collegeAt least 6 additional years of experience in a flight test related engineering positionAbility and willingness to work flexible and off-shift hours (including 1st, 2nd, 3rd shift, nights, weekends, and holidays) when business needs dictate.Ability and willingness to travel to and support operations at offsite locations when business needs dictate.Ability and willingness to fly aboard an experimental aircraft including participation in development flight tests.Able to obtain and maintain FAA Class-3 medical certificate or equivalent.Desired CharacteristicsStrong oral and written communication skillsStrong interpersonal and leadership skillsAbility to influence others and lead small teamsLead initiatives of moderate scope and impactAbility to coordinate several projects simultaneouslyEffective problem identification and solution skillsProven analytical and organizational abilityProject management experience in a cross-functional team environment with projects of moderate complexityExperience with propulsion testing techniques and methodsFamiliarity with flight test operation and airframe/propulsion system integrationFamiliarity with jet engine (turbomachinery) SPOCTFamiliarity with Boeing 747 aircraft systems, including capability and limitationsFamiliarity with flight test and turbomachinery instrumentationFamiliarity with flight test risk and hazard managementFamiliarity with human factors, flight physiology, and crew resource managementAbility to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Security ClearanceThis role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.
