Overview: Under supervision of Party Chief or Surveyor II, applies skills and knowledge to determine degree of conformance of installation of materials and equipment to MasTec Industrial and/or Client specifications. Performs inspection and/or layout of various project activities. Responsibilities: Promote and comply with all Company safety policies and proceduresRecord the results of surveys including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or land features.Calls out reading or writes station number and reading in notebook.Marks points of measurement with elevation, station number, or other identifying mark.Measures distance between survey points with steel or cloth tape or surveyor's chain.Marks measuring points with markers, paint sticks, tacks, scribe, or stakes.Holds level or stadia rod at designated points to assist in determining elevations and laying out stakes for mapmaking, construction, land, and other surveys.Place stakes at designated points and drives them into ground at specified elevation.Cuts and clears brush and trees or other possible obstructions from line of survey. · Load/unload equipment and prepare for daily jobs.Assume other special activities and responsibilities from time to time as assignedExercises own initiative in seeking additional work, or helping others complete their job assignments upon completion of regular work assignmentContinually work to sharpen skills and improve on the understanding of surveyingPunctual in work assignmentsConduct self in a professional manner in the presence of clients and co-workersCapable of determining calibration status of measuring and test equipmentInteracts cross-functionally with craft personnel and other team members Qualifications: Qualifications EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSEntry level experience working in the construction fieldHigh School diploma or GED equivalentKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED Be knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programsWhen on-site, actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.Set a personal example of safe behavior.Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints and procedure manualsAdd, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimalsMust have a desire to develop knowledge of layout and survey workAbility to understand and follow directions. Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.May need to maintain physical strength and stamina; Use arms, hands, and legs fully; Push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks.Stamina to perform this task repetitively and continuously for several hour intervals.Uncontrolled environmental conditions: Constant change in weather and site conditions.This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to- safety toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.).Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.May need to work at heights and must be able to abide by all safety and fall-protection requirements; must be able to wear and utilize all safety equipment required for work at heights.Evaluate information based on measurable standards; and see details in objects or drawings and recognize slight differences in shapes and shadings.Visualize objects in three dimensions from drawings.Keep good balance and work at heights.See well (either naturally or with correction).Hear well (either naturally or with correction.)Coordinate the use of eyes, hands, and feet.HOURS: This position is a Full-Time position scheduled to work typically 50 hours per week.
