Position Details

The Office of Academic Advising at The University of Tampa has an opening for a Director of Academic Advising. The Director has oversight responsibility for the Office of Academic Advising, a unit within the University's Academic Success Center. The Director of Academic Advising is charged with the coordination, oversight, and assessment of undergraduate advising programs and services that support the academic success and retention of students. The Director is responsible for closely collaborating with college departments, faculty advisors, and campus offices to provide vision and leadership for student-centered advising support from the first-year through degree completion. In this role, there will be opportunities to work with students and serve as an instructor in First-Year Studies.

Responsibilities
1. Direct the design, implementation, and assessment of advising services that provide effective and efficient advising and support programs for students that promote student success, retention, and satisfaction; This is to include the Transfer Student Center, exploratory advising, pre-professional advising, the petitions and appeals process, faculty advising support.

2. Provide excellent customer service to resolve student and parental concerns and work with others to address academic issues related to enrollment and degree completion.

3. Monitor academic policies and processes and streamline for maximum efficiency and equity.

4. Supervise, train, and develop Academic Advising Office staff and plan for and allocate professional development funds.

5. Work with the Directors in the Academic Success Center to develop, implement and assess ASC student academic success and retention efforts.

6. Collaborate with other departments on campus including Honors and other academic departments.

7. Coordinate new first-year and transfer student registration.

8. Support and collaborate on student and university diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

9. Participate in planning with division offices including the Center for Teaching and Learning, the First-Year Experience, Orientation and Office of Academic Success Initiatives.

10. Serve as the unit liaison with campus offices including Admissions, Student Affairs, Operations and Planning, Registrar, Bursar and Financial Aid. Serve on the Registration Task Force.

11. Serve, ex officio, on Faculty Senate committees as requested.

12. Develop and monitor the annual operating budget for the Academic Advising Office.

13. Ensure Academic Advising website is up-to-date and regular communications are sent regarding registration process

14. Lead course predictions for first-year and continuing students in collaboration with Deans and Provost.

15. Work with stakeholders on campus to implement and assess math placements

16. Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.

Qualifications
1. Master's degree in an academic discipline or higher education or related field from an accredited university. Ph.D. preferred.
2. Five (5) plus years direct experience with academic advising programs and services.
3. Five (5) plus years of experience supervising staff.
4. Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion with staff and students.
5. Knowledge of and experience with implementing best practices in advising that support student academic success and retention.
6. Knowledge of FERPA.
7. Experience leading teams through change.
8. Knowledge of different academic advising models.
9. Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to manage time wisely.
10. Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with students, parents and university personnel.
11. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
12. Knowledge of or the ability to quickly learn The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday and Navigate.
13. Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.

Work Schedule
Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Summer: Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
