Title: Contract - Engineer 1, Process Development (~6-9 months)

Location: Cambridge, MA

Reports to: Senior Scientist, Process Development

About Vedanta Biosciences:

Vedanta Biosciences is a late-stage biopharmaceutical company developing medicines for the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases. The company's lead assets include potential first-in-class oral therapies, VE303, a Phase 3-ready candidate for recurrent C. difficile infection, and VE202, in a Phase 2 trial for ulcerative colitis. Vedanta's pipeline has been built using the company's industry-leading product engine for the development of therapies based on defined consortia of bacteria grown from pure clonal cell banks. The product engine, supported by foundational IP, includes one of the largest libraries of bacteria isolated from the human microbiome, vast clinical datasets, proprietary capabilities in consortium design, and end-to-end CGMP manufacturing capabilities at commercial launch scale.

The Role:

Vedanta Biosciences is seeking a motivated individual interested in the biotechnology field. This individual will primarily focus on execution of experiments focused toward lyophilization formulation design within the Process Development group. The successful candidate will be tasked with the preparation of investigational formulations, execution of lyophilization experiments in close cooperation with the fermentation teams, execution of modulated differential scanning calorimetry (mDSC) experiments, and data analysis. The candidate will be trained in the operation of Millrock REVO lyophilization equipment and operation of modulated Differential Scanning Calorimetry (mDSC) equipment, with the opportunity to perform analysis of the outputs from these two processes. Additionally, the candidate may be tasked with assisting in other workflows in the fermentation team as needed. A candidate with experience in Tangential Flow Filtration is also preferred.

The successful candidate will be responsible for accurate record keeping while maintaining a clean and organized space within the shared laboratory space. The role will be fully onsite in the Cambridge office, five days per week.

Here's What You'll Do:
  • Prepare lyophilization formulations
  • Operate and fill 96-well format glass vial setups, custom micro trays, and full-size LyoGuard Lyophilization trays
  • Prepare mDSC sample pans, recording tare weights and samples' mass
  • Operate of Millrock & TA instrument software
  • Maintain lab space and equipment
  • Collect, record, and report experimental data
  • Work in close proximity with the fermentation team to facilitate sample preparation and hand off between downstream and upstream processing
  • Support process development downstream and upstream functions and provide updates to the team lead on a regular basis
  • Order supplies and other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • BS degree in an engineering, life science, or related field
  • Some experience performing routine tasks in a laboratory setting
  • Motivated, eager to learn, and genuinely interested in gathering experience in the biotechnology field
  • Ability and availability to work 8 am - 4 pm, Monday - Friday, in our Cambridge office, with occasionally earlier starting times on some Wednesdays and Thursdays
  • Good social, communication, and written skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members
  • Adaptable to changing priorities and comfortable in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills, ability to work independently once given proper instruction, and comfortable multi-tasking with several active deliverables

Our Vision: Pioneering microbiome therapeutics by using Defined Bacterial Consortia to transform the lives of patients with serious diseases
