Position Overview: As a Surgical Physician Assistant in our Transgender Surgery & Health Program, you will work under the direct supervision of a skilled Supervising Physician. Your role will encompass pre-operative and post-operative assessments, patient care, and invaluable surgical first assist expertise. You will play a pivotal role in promoting and maintaining patient health while delivering top-notch medical services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a Surgical First Assistant in all cases, contributing your expertise to ensure successful surgical outcomes.
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, including interviews, physical examinations, and comprehensive medical histories, both in inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Analyze and coordinate the care of complex patients, taking into account socio-cultural, cognitive, functional, nutritional, and educational factors.
  • Act as a patient advocate, liaising between patients, families, Supervising Physicians, and insurance companies. Keep patients informed about changes in their care plan and patient status.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including Attending Physicians and residents, to implement and direct patient management plans. Utilize evidence-based approaches and diagnostic tools to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and concise medical documentation, including history and physicals, consults, discharge summaries, and letters, ensuring continuity of care.
  • Facilitate referrals to various departments when necessary and perform baseline assessments to prevent postoperative complications.
  • Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within your scope of practice and approved medical staff privileges.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and staff, relaying patient information clearly and respectfully. Adhere to established guidelines and best practices.
  • Provide emergency resuscitation when needed, maintaining BLS and ACLS certification, and identifying patients at risk for cardiac/respiratory issues.

Experience Requirements:

  • Strongly preferred: One (1)+ year of experience in the operating room as a first assist.
  • One (1)+ year of experience as a Physician Assistant (PA-C), with a preference for experience in Urology, Plastic Surgery, or Transgender Surgery.
  • In-depth knowledge of anatomy for various surgical cases.

Educational/Licensure/Certifications Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
  • California Physician Assistant License.
  • National Commission Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Current DEA license and Furnishing Number, or eligibility to obtain.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS/ALS) certification.
