Overview

The Strategy & Operational Excellence team is on a mission to improve both our customer and employee experience by transforming how we plan, buy, make, and distribute products in Waters Global Operations. Our three pillars of focus include: Strategy, Processes and Systems, and Continuous Improvement.

This role is dedicated to supporting the cross-functional capability teams within the Global Operations Strategy & Operational Excellence organization in fulfilling their mission to improve both our customer and employee experience by driving a step change improvement in Demand Planning, Supply Planning, Production Planning, Material Management, Fulfilment, and Distribution. You will be responsible for guiding and approving design decisions to ensure SAP is optimized to support business processes, while ensuring that these are also aligned with the overall SAP strategy of the broader enterprise. This will require you to bring a deep understanding of how to best design an overall SAP environment to support operations, a perspective on how best to integrate other solutions (e.g., Process Mining, TMS, MES, WMS) into an existing SAP ecosystem, and an ability to collaborate across a global organization operating on a single instance SAP platform.

You will also serve as the subject matter expert in SAP APO to ensure Integrated Business Planning, Demand Planning and Supply Network Planning is optimized across our global manufacturing and distribution footprint. You will use your detailed knowledge of SAP DP, SNP, gATP and associated master data dependencies to establish and implement best practice to meet our current business objectives.

In addition, this role will serve as a conduit between Global Operations, IT, and other functions, working closely with stakeholders to ensure that we not only are fully optimized across our end-to-end supply chain processes, coordinated on broader enterprise processes, and are setting ourselves up for success in our future SAP S/4HANA transition.   

This role will be a key part of the Strategy and Operational Excellence team, reporting to the VP, Strategy and Operational Excellence, with a secondary line to the Sr. Director, SAP Systems in Enterprise IT for guidance on design review and approval requirements, standards, change control, and architectural decisions.

It can be based out of our Milford, US or Wilmslow, UK site.

Responsibilities
  • Work with Global Operations colleagues to develop and execute the roadmap for improving SAP-related business processes, leveraging the full functionality within the current SAP environment to support immediate and longer-term business initiatives
  • Apply a global, ‘standard-first’ mindset to drive process harmonization, identify and reduce customizations that hinder efficient scaling of Global Operations or could slow or complicate a future transition to S4/HANA – highlighting both opportunities for improvement and potential barriers to success
  • Engage with cross-functional teams in “art of the possible” conversations and use analytical and problem-solving skills, to support them in crafting adaptable, comprehensive solutions appropriate for each need, while presenting the pros and cons of options
  • Empower multiple cross-functional teams to rapidly move from problem identification to solution implementation
  • Conduct review and approval of proposed configuration, customization, and modifications to ensure standard capabilities are being leveraged whenever and wherever possible and that best practice is being applied to all solutions
  • Play an active role in solution implementation
  • Recognize when an SAP product or solution is not the best or right answer to meet the business need
  • Partner with both Global Operations and IT leaders to assist with determination of approach, resourcing needs, and risks in support of our key initiatives
  • Keep abreast of industry best practices and bring relevant insights and solutions to meet Global Operations’ strategic business needs
Qualifications
  • Strong experience leading roles in supply chain solution design and development in complex global ecosystems that utilize SAP, non-SAP and custom solutions
  • Ability to translate strategy into solutions that support achievement of the strategic objectives
  • Experience engaging with internal and external stakeholders to design simple solutions to complex problems
  • Passionate about leveraging the SAP best practices and embracing a “why not standard” barometer when designing SAP solutions in support of meeting and exceeding user objectives
  • Deep understanding of the nuances of SAP’s capabilities, interconnectivity and dependencies when working in an environment with a single global instance of our SAP solutions.
  • Detailed technical knowledge of SAP Supply Chain functions with SAP ERP and APO. Similar depth of knowledge in S/4 HANA a plus.
  • Experience architecting the inclusion of new tools/capabilities (e.g., Ariba SCC, Celonis), as well as data pipelines from and into a mature SAP ecosystem
  • Excellent analytical, conceptual thinking, planning and execution skills.
  • Proven experience of successfully designing and delivering solutions with team of employees and contractors both locally and remotely.
  • Able to influence and achieve alignment across a range of different opinions and interests.
  • Very strong verbal, presentation and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to identify issues, solve them quickly
  • Experience working in both Agile and Waterfall methodologies
