Applications Engineer

Overview Tektronix is looking for a customer focused Applications Engineer to join our Engineering Sales organization in Beaverton, Oregon. This position is suitable for an entry-level engineer with limited, but applicable, work experience and academic credentials, or a new graduate with applicable practical experience and curriculum, that is looking to begin his or her technical career in a fast-paced technology company. This position will allow you to gain electrical test and measurement instrumentation knowledge and hone your engineering skills. After initial immersion in the Technical Support Center, typically 1-3 years, opportunities will be available to advance your career in a multitude of teams throughout Tektronix, such as the Field Applications Engineering team in North America. Responsibilities As an Applications Engineer, you will Provide top-tier customer application support for Tektronix Product Line products (e.g. Oscilloscopes, signal generators, source measure units, parameter analyzers). Our customers are engineers within the largest and most advanced technology companies looking to implement our hardware and software into their applications and facilities. Partner 1:1 with these customers to solve the broad variety of complex engineering challenges encountered as they invent, develop, deploy and/or maintain their next-generation products. Directly interface with our Field Application Engineers, Sales Team and Product Engineering Team to provide additional insight into our customers’ equipment needs and applications to provide solutions which incorporate industry leading hardware and software. Work with our sales team in driving customer preference for our products and provide pre-and-post-sale engineering support. Provide hardware and software solutions through equipment recommendations, troubleshooting measures and programming support. Write application notes and generate “How-to” videos for customer use, as well as knowledge capture and mentorship for internal development. Occasional travel for onsite support of complex customer requests in assistance with Field Engineering and Sales Teams. Must support the capturing of knowledge – competitive information, applications, product capabilities – into knowledge database. Qualifications This position supports our Tektronix and Keithley Product Line products and related applications via direct interaction with our internal and external customers, in an energized and team-centric work environment. Initially working with a wide array of customer experiences in the Technical Support Center will provide ample preparation for growth into advanced roles within the company. Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering or equivalent Demonstrable understanding/experience in using Oscilloscopes, Signal Generators, Source Meters, DMMs, or Spectrum Analyzers Engineering experience in basic test and measurement equipment (probing, capacitance and loading effects on circuits, I-V characterization, general semiconductor/transistor testing). Laboratory, R&D, or industrial test and measurement experience preferred, including university laboratory exercises and projects focused on signal-oriented test and measurement. Programming experience to include expertise with at least one high-level language (Python, C-sharp, VB, Labview, etc.), with broader programming experience, particularly experience closely related to instrumentation control and measurement applications is desired. MS Office suite understanding required. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills that foster high-value relationships with both customers and the extended Tektronix/Keithley Team. Exhibits above average ability to communicate technical concepts and obtain information indirectly (Phone, e-mail, etc.) and possesses detail-orientation needed to track multiple, complex customer interactions quickly and accurately.
