POSITION GOALS FOR THE LAB TECH

The Laboratory Technician at Hospitality Health ER plays a critical part as a member of the professional laboratory technical team and is responsible for performing, reporting, and interpreting all levels of testing under general supervision. Under the supervision of the Radiology Director, the Laboratory Technician will use both automated and manual equipment to examine and analyze cells, blood, and bodily fluids. The Full-Time Lab Tech will work 12 hour shifts to include weekends.  The PRN Lab Tech will work 12 hour shifts on an as needed basis, to include nights and weekends. 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE LAB TECH

Under the direction the Radiology Director, the Laboratory Technician at Hospitality Health ER will be responsible for, but not be limited to:

  1. Creating and maintaining a patient centered focus by engaging in a positive working relationship with all patients, visitor, and facility staff
  2. Performing laboratory patient testing and reporting as assigned by the Laboratory Director in accordance with the Laboratory Procedure Manual
  3. Identifying patients and labels specimens correctly and legibly according to departmental policies and procedures
  4. Collecting appropriate specimens from patients ensuring that two patient identifiers are collected prior to collection and labeling at the patient's bedside
  5. Preparing or instruct patients for specimen collection in age appropriate dialog
  6. Preparing specimens to be sent out to a reference laboratory
  7. Following all laboratory safety policies and procedures as well as make all records and documents available for inspection by the Laboratory Director, Technical Consultant, or CLIS Inspectors
  8. Running controls and documents as described in the QC Policy 12.01.2015
  9. Calibrating all laboratory instruments in accordance with the Laboratory Policy and Procedure Manual
  10. Maintaining all laboratory instruments as prescribed by the manufacturers and troubleshoot instrument failure according to the manufacturers troubleshooting procedures
  11. Maintaining laboratory safety equipment in proper working order to ensure their effectiveness and maintain PPE supplies as needed
  12. Maintaining laboratory supply inventories and order/restock supplies as needed to ensure no disruptions are caused due to supply levels
  13. Adhering to all facility policies and procedures relating to laboratory operations
  14. Ensuring that patient care is a number one priority in keeping with the Hospitality brand

POSITION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE LAB TECH

The requirements for employment as a Laboratory Technician with Hospitality Health ER are:

  1. Customer service experience; demonstrated ability in customer service practice related to direct patient care in a high volume, high stress environment
  2. Critical thinking skills, ability to work autonomously and make efficient use of time and resources
  3. Strong leadership skills, able to support and demonstrate company mission, and perform as a team member and leader
  4. Must have a current driver's license with no restrictions
  5. Must have the ability to work effectively with patients, staff and physicians
  6. Must have the ability to be flexible and meet the scheduling demands of the department
  7. Demonstrate competency of Physical Assessment within 90 days, as evaluated by the Supervisor
  8. Adherence with sterilization and infection control policies and procedures as defined in the Laboratory Operations Manual

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE LAB TECH

  • Associates Degree in medical technology, chemistry, physical or biological science Required
  • ASCP Certified or equivalent Preferred
  • 1-year experience in a hospital setting Minimum
  • Knowledge of hospital laboratory practices, including infection control requirements Required 
  • Knowledge of governmental and regulating policies and standards Required
