Summary:

Under the guidance of the Sterile Processing and Instrument Management Director the Quality Assurance/Education Manager is responsible for assuring quality and compliance with established standards policies sop*s OSHA TJC DPH EPA CDC etc. pertaining to the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) and infection control practices and sterility assurance. The Quality Assurance /Education Manager will ensure that competency assessment training education and interventions for all SPD staff within the medical center are performed and up to date in the employee*s file. Responsibility for implementation and maintenance of all departmental educational training in-service and quality improvement activities within the department. Serves as liaison between departmental managers supervisors and staff as relates to all departmental operations quality and excellence. This individual interfaces directly with Rhode Island Hospital departments administrators nursing medical and quality leadership clinical staff and support staff managing the educational and operational impact of all clinical care delivery staff performance and quality outcome measures to support clinical practice.

Responsibilities:

Education Responsibilities

Assesses educational needs of SPD and conducts education programs that validates all staff competence in accordance with standards of practice.

Partners with leadership in the development implementation and evaluation of the SPD orientation and training program to facilitate new employees internship students and others to transition into the department.

Provides consultation and on-going support to departments throughout the hospital as well as throughout the healthcare system.

Reviews and revises orientation/competency documents as required.

Reviews and revises orientation and education schedule as needed.

Provides consultation and support to SPD managers supervisors and coordinators on across all shifts.

Precepts leadership and assesses their learning needs and development.

Utilizes own competency to promote delivery of high-quality patient care. Functions as a role model for all SPD leaders.

Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of all departmental clinical educational training in-service.

Responsible for the Net-Learning and up-to-date certification monitoring and compliance of all Staff.

Manages all precepting activities needed by staff. Plans out all precepting responsibilities and assigns coordinators areas of responsibilities.

Quality Responsibilities

Responsible for the Quality Management System Program for Sterile Processing.

Creates quality dashboards key performance [indicators and other metrics performs audits monitors and creates reports for internal and external use.

Responsible for the continuous improvement process of the quality of the service and products provided by the sterile processing department.

Ensures that the department meets all the regulations standards and guidelines consistent with AORN AAMI The Joint Commission CMS CDC OSHA FDA and regulatory agencies requirements as well as the hospital*s policies and procedures.

Leads the creation and maintenance of all sterile processing department policies/sop*s with up-to-date information.

Maintains and updates professional knowledge by actively participating in professional seminars and organizations.

Maintains and makes sure that all staff certifications are up-to-date and readily available in the employee files.

Maintains employee*s department files.

Has routine meetings with the SPD leadership to discuss quality education ideas changes and projects.

Completes all annual and on-going staff competencies for all sterile processing departments. This includes all technicians supervisors and managers.

Has routine meetings to discuss quality and education with the quality/education team (Quality coordinators preceptors instrument coordinator and leadership).

Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Other information:

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Associate*s degree in related field of healthcare business or science required. Bachelor*s degree preferred.

Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) through Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or other certification boards and their equivalent certification.

Advanced Certifications: Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) and Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER). These must be obtained within 12 months 18 months and 24 months of hire as a condition of employment.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 10 years in the Sterile Processing field.

Minimum of 7-8 as an educator in quality or supervisory or managerial responsibility within the sterile processing field.

Strong working knowledge of principles standards and practices of sterile processing field.

Must demonstrate expert knowledge of instrumentation equipment inventory management and case cart management as well as HLD.

Proficient oral and written (English language) communication skills required in order to fulfill documentation and presenting requirements associated with the position.

Computer and Microsoft office proficient.

Excellent people skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Works in patient care environment and sterile processing area with some exposure to infectious disease contaminated equipment supplies and instruments; hazards are minimized when established safety procedures are followed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Ten to twelve staff.
