The Manager Data Engineering requires deep knowledge of architecting solutions for business problems. This position will engage directly with business teams and manage the design, development and implementation of solutions that build or expand on our data warehouse and data lake information assets. The Manager of Data Engineering * Manages and oversees a team of associates and contractors (on and offshore), including Data Engineers, Business Systems Analysts, Application Developers, and Testers. * Supports the standards and conventions set by Data Architecture and Data Governance teams in the BTS Enterprise Information Management team * Assigns work and work schedules, and monitors the completion of the team's core duties, responsibilities, assignments, and projects. * Identifies and establish strategic direction for all matters related to data engineering, data acquisition, extracts, reports, application interfaces and enrichment processes * Abides and enforces corporate and information technology policies * Mentors team members * Conducts peer reviews * Demonstrates a solid understanding of the Independence business processes and requirements * Engages with business teams to understand their needs and develops robust, innovative solutions that exceed our customer's expectations * Ensure that team members understand not only the technical and data architecture they are working with, but also the business context. * People Management -- Performance appraisals etc. * Performs other duties as assigned REQUIRED SKILLS: * Bachelor's Degree in Business, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience. * 15+ years of experience in data warehouse or data lake environments * Development and project management experience implementing analytic applications including all phases of system development lifecycle (SDLC) * 5+ years leadership/supervisory experience * Deep understanding of enterprise data and how it is being used by business for analytical and operational purposes. * Leadership/supervisory experience preferred in the following areas: * ETL or ELT design and development * Analytic applications * Data engineering * Data warehouse * Big Data/Hadoop * Cloud-based solutions * Ability to influence and partner with business partners as well as to work with highly technical individuals * Demonstrated solutions design experience * Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization. * Excellent organization, analytical, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. * Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining budgets, policies, procedures, and standards * Experience supporting Healthcare, Managed Care, Finance or Account Reporting desired * Healthcare experience is preferred * Cloud and Hadoop experience are also desired * Accountable for adherence to program and project management standards Hybrid Independence has implemented a "Hybrid" model which consists of Associates working in the office 3 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday) and remotely 2 days a week (Monday & Friday). This role is designated as a role that fits into the "Hybrid" model. While associates may work remotely on our designated remote days, the work must be performed in the Tri-State Area of Delaware, New Jersey or Pennsylvania.
