Job Summary
Perform and report various analyses from multiple specimen sources. Serve as the technical expert and make decisions in the absence of the Analytical Specialist. Assist in the evaluation and validation of new products, assays and instrumentation.
Job Duties- Perform technical duties and serve as a technical expert at the instrument or platform level.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems with instruments.
- Make operational decisions in the absence of the Analytical Specialist or Team Leader.
- Assist in the evaluation and validation of new products, assays and instrumentation.
- Serve as a key operator for all instrumentation within the technical area of responsibility.
- Assist in implementation of new testing and new methods, including procedure writing.
- Assist with annual procedure manual review and revision.
- Interpret specialized testing as appropriate.
- In conjunction with the Analytical Specialist, ensure that competency, proficiency testing, quality control and maintenance are completed and reviewed.
- Assist Analytical Specialist with inventory management.
- Participate in the training of employees.
- Member of the Best Practice Committee for their area of responsibility when appropriate.
- Meet all the qualifications and performance requirements of the Clinical Laboratory Scientist position.
- Participate in educational activities to maintain current knowledge in the field.
- Successful completion of initial and subsequent competency exams required.

Position DetailsAs a generalist with our first shift medical laboratory team, you'll find a balance between automation and manual testing. You'll work in multiple areas and refine your skills through time spent in Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, and Urinalysis As a member of the laboratory team, you'll support a 600+ bed Level I trauma and comprehensive stroke center AND perform testing for the entire eight-hospital system.
Our medical technologists perform testing, support quality control measures, and troubleshoot instrumentation. These specialists also offer opportunities for specialized testing generally performed in a reference laboratory; Flow Cytometry to aid in the diagnosis of Lymphoma and Leukemias; Toxicology to aid in identifying drugs of abuse and management of compliance of other drugs. Medical technologists are also responsible for testing for serum and urine protein electrophoresis, allergens, autoimmune diseases, infectious diseases, specialty coagulation, etc.
Our medical technologists can also work in a satellite laboratory within our cancer center that promotes close interactions with nursing, physicians, and phlebotomists providing real-time testing for our patients.
Education and Experience RequirementsBachelor's Degree in Medical Technology and a minimum of 4 years of laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Military experience will be considered and is welcomed.
Certification and Licensing RequirementsCertification as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist by a recognized professional organization (e.g., ASCP, AMT), or certification as a Medical Technologist in a related field.
