Job Summary

Geisinger Health System is seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team at Geisinger Medical Center (GMC). As a Medical Laboratory Scientist, you will be responsible for performing and reporting various analyses from multiple specimen sources, meeting the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned clinical area, and serving as the technical expert and making decisions in the absence of the Analytical Specialist.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform technical duties and serve as a technical expert at the instrument or platform level.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems with instruments.
  • Make operational decisions in the absence of the Analytical Specialist or Team Leader.
  • Assist in the evaluation and validation of new products, assays, and instrumentation.
  • Serve as a key operator for all instrumentation within the technical area of responsibility.
  • Assist in implementation of new testing and new methods, including procedure writing.
  • Assist with annual procedure manual review and revision.
  • Interpret specialized testing as appropriate.
  • In conjunction with the Analytical Specialist, ensure that competency, proficiency testing, quality control, and maintenance are completed and reviewed.
  • Assist Analytical Specialist with inventory management.
  • Participate in the training of employees.
  • Member of the Best Practice Committee for their area of responsibility when appropriate.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university and successful completion of an ASCP/NAACLS-accredited Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science program.
  • At least four years' experience in a medical laboratory.
  • Valid Driver's License.
