The Electronic Calibration Technician I will apply knowledge of measurement science, mathematics, and electronics to calibrate inspection, measurement, and test equipment in the Electrical-DC/Low Frequency, and Time & Frequency disciplines to ensure measurement accuracy.
This is not an entry-level position.
Skills and Requirements
- Minimum of 1-2 years prior experience in calibration of equipment listed below is required
- Experienced and aware of ISO 9000 and/or ISO 17025 quality assurance program desired
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Strong computer and math skills
- Proficient with Windows, Microsoft Office, and Internet applications with an emphasis on Excel
Proficient in customer service skills - Proficient math skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent organizational skills
- Capable of lifting (50 pounds) unassisted
- Candidate MUST be willing to travel to local and regional on-site locations
- MUST Pass entrance exam (see Application Process below)
- A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in electronics calibrations
- Bachelor or Associate degree in electronics preferred
- Military service in electronics field highly regarded
- Perform routine and complex calibrations of low to mid-level on test, measurement and diagnostic equipment in our laboratory (20%) and at our client's facility (80%).
- Determining specifications/tolerances of equipment
- Understanding and daily application of quality systems and quality standards
- Good knowledge of the laboratory's Scope of Accreditation
- Understand the usage of available Calibration Spreadsheets
- Complete all assigned quality assurance training as assigned to include required readings as assigned
- Promptly addresses customer requests, inquiries and complaints taking actions as appropriate to satisfy the customer or resolve the issue
- Perform equipment maintenance as necessary and participate in internal audits, annual laboratory assessments and proficiency testing
- Perform calibration in accordance with calibration procedures to meet the needs of the customer
- Willing to learn to write and submit for approval calibration procedures
- Complete all computer based work orders accurately and efficiently while maintaining a 2% or less QC Error rate on completed work orders and technical witnessing
- Continually pursue technical proficiency, calibration skills through various means such as self-study and internal training programs and proficiency testing
- Ensure customer satisfaction through timely turn-around on all equipment by actively reviewing, projecting and planning of workload

Physical Demands
- Ability to communicate orally with customers, vendors, management, and coworkers is crucial. Regular use of phone and email for communication is essential. Hearing and vision correctable to within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, receiving ordinary information, and preparing or inspecting documents and calibration activities.
- The ability to remain in a stationary position roughly 50% of the time, as well as the ability to move about the laboratory and customer spaces as required.
- Using a computer or calibrating while sitting or standing for extended periods is common. Must also be able to position self to calibrate equipment, including some harsh environments at customer facilities which may include heat, cold, noise-levels, etc. Some onsite facilities may require personal safety equipment such as earplugs, steel-toe boots, splash aprons, safety eyewear, and respirators.
- Continuous heavy lifting is not expected, however onsite service requires loading and unloading of calibration equipment though occasional exertion of about up to 70 lbs. of force (e.g., picking up and carrying calibration standards) may be required.
- Onsite activities do sometimes require extensive drive times.
The Calibration Technician I reports directly to the Laboratory Manager.

Career Based
At Cal Lab, we want to grow our technicians into more technically advanced Metrologists. Technicians have the ability and are encouraged to advance up the technician ranks. We currently have 4 levels of technician advancement which include Associate Calibration Technician, Calibration Technician I, Calibration Technician II, Calibration Technician III.

Cal Lab has a fully integrated e Learning program in place for the training and growth of laboratory staff. This includes immediate access to training from a desktop computer or applications for iOS and Android devices. We promote the Gamification process with our e Learning to bring your assigned courses to life with Badges, Points, Levels, Rewards and Leader-boards. A full catalog is available to all staff members to encourage self-motivated course selection by staff members instead of strictly relying on course assignment. If staff members are interested in learning new skills, tasks or equipment calibrations, they are encouraged to subscribe to the course and start their training.
