Construction Supervisor

The Construction Supervisor has comprehensive knowledge of all types of commercial construction and skilled trades and oversees staff and subcontractors for building projects and/or multiple projects. The Construction Supervisor is responsible for scheduling and coordinating all onsite activities for the project assuring the project is on time, within budget, and to the quality specified.
Essential Position Functions
- Act as the Company's onsite representative for construction site or projects and oversee all subcontractors and staff in all phases of construction. Verify quality of work performed by subcontractors and field labor.
- Monitor jobsite personnel's adherence to established policies, practices and procedures.
- Responsible for the coordination of subcontractors, material suppliers, inspectors and other required to fulfill the requirements of the project timeline.
- Confer with owners, contractors and skilled trades (i.e. plumbers, carpenters, electricians, etc.) to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints or construction problems.
- Properly document all aspects of the work and prepare written correspondence to protect the company's interests as needed.
- Maintain a safe work site by ensuring all staff and subcontractors are following appropriate safety codes and requirements.
- Responsible for accurate and timely completion of all Company required paperwork such as job site inspections, incident reports, RFI's and safety checklists.
- Travel is required throughout the service area to each project or construction site as business needs dictate. Must be able to work flexible work hours.
- Ability to oversee multi projects, anticipate issues and plan ahead.
- Ability to communicate timely and keep everyone aware of progress.
- Establish and maintain appropriate budgets and timelines.
- Performing some of the actual construction work or trade craft as needed or required.
- Have knowledge and the ability to work with all areas including but not limited to subcontractors, engineers and other advisors.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Five or more years' field commercial construction experience and detailed knowledge of skilled trades and state specific general contractors license preferred OR equivalent combination of education and experience which will provide the ability to perform the essential functions of the position. Must have a valid driver's license for operation of a motor vehicle in Oregon, Washington and/or Idaho and possess an acceptable driving record.
Journeyman carpenter and/or foreman/superintendent experience preferred.
Licenses, Certifications and Registrations
- Oregon CCB License Preferred
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification Preferred
Knowledge of:
- Building construction, means and methods, scheduling and cost control procedures, subcontract documents, drawings and specifications and subcontract documents.
- Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations, codes, and/or statutes.
- Negotiation techniques and budgeting principles.
- Project management principles.
- Interpreting and applying applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
- Performing some of the actual construction work or trade craft as needed or required.
- Negotiating with subcontractors and suppliers/vendors.
- Creating simple construction cost estimates/budgets.
- Creating construction schedules and knowledge of sequential activities/dependencies and timeframes for construction tasks.
- Analyzing problems, identifying alternative solutions, projecting consequences of proposed actions, and making recommendations in support of goals.
- Inspecting construction sites for compliance with applicable standards, codes, and regulations.
- Enforcing applicable construction and building code requirements.
- Reading blueprints, schematic drawings, and/or construction drawings.
- Utilizing computer technology used for communication, data gathering and reporting.
- Communicating effectively through oral and written mediums.
- Spreadsheets, email and other software used in the construction industry.
- Write thorough, timely and complete reports and effectively communicate ideas and concepts.
- Self-perform portions of the physical work as needed or required.
- Effectively oversee all staff assigned to a work site including subcontractors and all other labor assigned to work site.
Physical Requirements:
Work time is split between a typical office environment and on job sites where work is done in a construction environment. Will be exposed to weather, dirt/dust, loud noise, and is required to wear personal protective equipment. May be required to lift up to 40 pounds regularly. Must be able to work for periods of time in front of a computer.
