The Jefferson County Government is seeking a skilled Maintenance Worker to perform a variety of semiskilled and skilled maintenance and construction work for roadways, storm drainage, and other public works facilities and systems.
Responsibilities include operating single axle dump trucks, performing labor involved in construction and maintenance projects, and ensuring the proper maintenance of equipment and tools.
Additional duties may include operating light and medium-sized construction and power equipment, assisting in the training of new employees, and performing work at assigned locations during specified business hours.

Essential Job Functions:
* Operates single axle dump trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various materials or equipment.
* Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including pavement patching, ditch digging, shoveling, jack hammering, chain sawing, and other physical labor necessary.
* Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use.
* Performs routine inspections and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment.
* Operates light and medium-sized construction and power equipment, such as air compressor, brush chipper, chain saw, jackhammer, or mechanized broom.
* Performs all duties in accordance with safety policies and procedures.
* Assists in the training of new or lower-level employees to increase their skills and promote safety in the maintenance and construction of roads and storm drainage facilities.
* Places traffic control devices and perform duties as a flagger for work zone traffic control in compliance with the County's standards and guidelines.
* Performs some work as part of the County's Emergency Operations Plan.
* Performs work at assigned location during specified business hours.
* Performs related additional duties as required and assigned.
Requirements:
* High school diploma or equivalent required.
* Valid driver's license required.
* Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a fast-paced environment.
* Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors.
* Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions and maintain a safe working environment.
