School-Based Mental Health Counselor

Mission:

At Faith in Action Community Education Services, our mission is to rebuild our community's faith in the education system by providing our families and students with the resources they need to reach their goals and dreams.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated School-Based Mental Health Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide mental health services to students within a school setting, supporting their emotional and psychological well-being, and ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and group counseling services to students, addressing issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and other emotional or behavioral concerns.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to create and implement effective intervention strategies.
  • Develop and monitor individualized treatment plans tailored to each student's needs.
  • Conduct assessments to identify students' mental health needs and recommend appropriate services.
  • Facilitate crisis intervention when necessary and provide follow-up support.
  • Educate students, staff, and families about mental health topics and resources.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records, documenting all counseling sessions and interventions.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to support students' overall well-being and academic success.
  • Participate in school meetings, such as IEPs and student support teams, to advocate for students' mental health needs.
  • Stay current with best practices in school-based mental health counseling and continue professional development.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Valid state licensure or certification as a Mental Health Counselor, Social Worker, or equivalent.
  • Experience working with children and adolescents in a school or similar setting.
  • Strong understanding of child development, mental health disorders, and therapeutic interventions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual abilities.
  • Experience with special education populations and IEP processes.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and restorative justice principles.

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage crisis situations calmly and effectively.
