Reporting to the Residential Clinical Supervisor, the Behavioral Health Specialist is responsible for developing relationships with and maintaining consistent communication with family and external providers to help manage the daily logistics of the resident.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Completes and maintains treatment plan, progress notes, communication logs, and other required
    paperwork within required timeframes.
  • Communicate with direct supervisor around problem solving issues.
  • Actively participate with clinical, medical, and operational teams to support the therapeutic needs of the
    residents.
  • Collaborate with educators to support the resident’s social-emotional needs within the academic
    environment.
  • Provides primary caregivers with information on psychiatric symptoms, child care, disciplining, behavior
    management, and household management and communication and relationship enhancement when
    needed; teaches resident social skills including interpersonal and community living skills.
  • Provides crisis intervention and mediation as necessary.
  • Provides support to the family/caregivers for the purpose of reunification, as necessary.
  • Coordinates, makes referrals or arranges for appropriate community resources when needed, acts as an
    advocate if necessary.
  • Teaches family/caregivers how to utilize the system and minimize psychiatric symptoms of youth.
  • Coordinates services for youth with and outside of OhioGuidestone.
  • Record keeping and copying of necessary information, dissemination to appropriate individuals within the
    agency and any outside agencies based on departmental requirements.
  • Participates in staff training, supervisory and staff meetings. Complete the agency’s approved trauma
    informed training, including annual refreshers.
  • May be required to work after hours during crisis situations with a resident.
  • Meets and sustains the OhioGuidestone designated productivity standard. Maintains minimum productivity
    level face to face contacts based on hours worked.
  • Pass and maintain PAARR certification and Adult and Child CPR and First Aid.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • May be asked to complete related duties other than those indicated above as assigned by their supervisor.
  • Exhibits positivity, flexibility and a willingness to take on new responsibilities as requested or required.
  • Demonstrates positive leadership, promote a team-based work environment and present the Agency in the
    most positive light with all internal and external contacts.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Requires typing and computer competency, including Windows applications for moderate levels of typing
    case notes and other paperwork.
  • Must be able to communicate using all means including but not limited to, in-person, phone, and computer.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written; ability to present ideas in a clear
    and concise manner to individuals as all levels.
  • Organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Skilled team player with ability to engage with coworkers across all departments.
Performance/Physical Requirements:
  • Work is performed primarily with in the Residential Treatment Center Campus at various locations within
    the agency and several community agencies.
  • Must be able to access work businesses, office, and various work locations as necessary which may include
    ascending/descending stairs.
  • Must be able to stoop, stand, walk, bend, and stay upright to perform work.
  • Completion of PAARR physical training and the ability to physically restrain residents whose ages, heights
    and weights vary.
  • Works flexible hours and is available for crisis management by phone which will include both evenings and
    weekends.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum education required is a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field a plus.
  • Must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License with a safe driving record and valid insurance.
  • Ability to take and pass a physical exam, tuberculosis test and drug screening.
  • Employment is contingent upon clear results of a thorough background check.
