Summary

Radiologic Technologist 2 are responsible for use of complex radiographic equipment in completing specialized diagnostic studies within the main hospital or other specialty areas of a large and diversified department of radiology. Employees in this classification operate highly specialized equipment to produce studies such as aortograms, angiocardiograms or other special procedures which combine bi-plane seriography and cineradiography.

Responsibilities

  • Produces radiographs of the chest, abdomen, extremities, spine and other areas by use of x-ray equipment in an emergency room, fluoroscopy room, or hospital area in a safe and responsible manner with a sensitivity to the patient's age-specific needs.
  • Adjusts equipment at appropriate angles and heights, and positions patients according to department protocol.
  • Computes technical factors, on an individual patient basis, to produce radiographs of proper detail, density and contrast to ensure good quality control.
  • Provides radiation protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
  • Operates portable x-ray equipment as assigned, and performs selected procedures in other areas of the radiology department when requested.
  • Receives on the job training in specialized technical areas, and attends department in-service programs to learn to use of new equipment and/or advanced techniques.
  • In the absence of the supervisor or in conjunction with the supervisor, supervises technologist and ancillary personnel in the complete performance of diagnostic procedures and makes decisions using own best judgment.
  • Ensures quality control of all produced radiographs and participates in the departmental CQI program.
  • Provides and uses immobilization devices as required, while adhering to safety standards particular to the age-specific needs of the patient.
  • Assists physicians in administering contrast material.
  • Develops films and replaces processing solutions, as the workload demands.
  • Maintains safety standards.
  • Completes required reports and records.
  • Reports equipment repairs when needed.
  • Serves, when required, as supervisor of diagnostic areas on weekend duty.
  • Communicates with and reassures patients.
  • Performs basic duties in patient care, assuming care of physical and psychological age-specific needs of the patient during the procedure. Initiates life supporting measures for patients, if necessary.
  • Participates in the instruction of radiologic technology students by demonstrating techniques used in various highly technical procedures.
  • Evaluates and grades students as assigned.
  • Completes laboratory records and reports.
  • Copies pertinent clinical information from Medical Record to radiology request form.
  • Assists subordinate personnel in routine duties including performance of less specialized procedures, cleaning and daily maintenance of areas, and transportation of patients within the department.
  • Utilizes appropriate HIS Computer System functions and follows through to record complete or incomplete procedures.
  • Complies with all safety rules and regulations, departmental and hospital rules and protocol for all procedures.
  • Possesses and maintains understanding of the principles of growth and development.
  • Assesses data reflective of the patient's status, and interprets the information needed to identify the patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs.
  • Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
Experience
  • Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.
Education
  • Associate's degree in Radiology Technology is required.
  • Any Employee who will be performing Point of Care and testing in the Operating Room, Neuro ICU, NICU, PICU, Pedi-ER, Cath Lab and/or Interventional Radiology areas, the educational degree must be verified at the time of hire.
  • Minimum education level required to be verified is Associate's degree.
Skill
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines.

  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications.
  • Must meet and maintain current all unit specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licensures, as required by the nursing area.
Credentials
  • Valid Florida state license as a Radiology Technologist required.
  • Employees hired BEFORE 2/1/2017 MUST obtain the required ARRT Certification by 12/31/2019.
  • Employees who have completed training at JHS may be granted a grace period of 6 months upon hire to obtain the required certification.
  • Any new hires with external training must have the required certification at the time of hire.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification with at least 6 months validity required.
