About the role:

We are growing rapidly, and looking for a self-motivated, Technical Lead with minimum 6+ years of work experience and a focus on building software applications and supporting systems.

This role is for a freelance technical leader that can assist with Heady's client teams when needed. We anticipate this role allocating 20-40+ hours per week. Based on growth and performance the opportunity to be hired full time is a possibility.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for guiding and overseeing the technical aspects of projects from conception to completion. You will work closely with a team of developers, designers, and project managers to ensure the successful delivery of software solutions that align with our clients' objectives. The Technical Lead will be expected to provide technical leadership, mentorship, and hands-on development expertise to drive the team towards excellence.

This technical leader should be well organized, a great communicator, and be comfortable taking initiative. We also value organizational skills and adherence of standards & best practices.

Reporting to the VP, Engineering, the Technical Lead will need to uphold our values of Transparency, Integrity and Equality since we are committed to delivering high-quality software products that exceed client expectations.

Primary responsibilities:
  • Technical Leadership: Lead and mentor teams of developers, providing technical guidance, support, and encouraging best practices to ensure the successful execution of projects.
  • Project Planning and Execution: Collaborate with project managers to define project scope, timelines, and technical requirements. Drive the successful execution of projects, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Code Review and Quality Assurance: Conduct regular code reviews to maintain code quality and ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.
  • Technical Problem Solving: Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues that may arise during the development process, providing innovative and efficient solutions.
  • Architecture and Design: Take ownership of defining the software architecture and design patterns for projects, considering factors such as scalability, security, performance and integration with new & existing systems/platforms.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay up-to-date with the latest trends, tools, and technologies in the software development industry, and encourage the team to do the same.
  • Client Collaboration: Collaborate with clients to understand their technical needs and objectives, providing expert advice and suggestions throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Team Building: Foster a collaborative and positive team environment, promoting open communication and teamwork to achieve project goals.
  • Should be active on projects to review and mentor, some technologies we use, NodeJS, Express, React, Next.js, Typescript, .NET, Swift, Kotlin, Java, AWS, PHP, Laravel, Python, MongoDB, MySQL, Jenkins, Bitrise, and many others.

Qualification & Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science with minimum 6 years of experience developing, testing, and delivering high quality software and systems.
  • Knowledge of the web and mobile first application ecosystem, as well as the systems that support them, APIs, CMS, Middleware, Backend, Databases, etc.
  • Leadership experience & ability to interact with peers at all levels.
  • Professionalism and ability to communicate with clients on project and business specific matters.
  • Be a self-starter, able to take initiative, possess ambition, create methods for delivering solutions & establish best practices.
  • Strong communication, presentation and organizational skills
  • Able to meet deadlines and work in a fast paced environment
