Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct scheduled experiential therapy sessions.
  • Coordinate and plan programming to address patient needs.
  • Maintain therapy environments for safety and supplies.
  • Be adaptable to changes in schedule and program additions.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in a variety of experiential therapies.

Documentation/Treatment:

  • Complete treatment plans and evaluations according to organizational policy.
  • Document therapy sessions as per organizational policy.

Patient Knowledge:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of intervention strategies and employ redirection as needed to ensure patient safety.
  • Monitor patient behavior and intervene using de-escalation techniques.
  • Establish therapeutic rapport with patients while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of psychosocial functioning and common diagnostic categories.

Education/Training Requirements:

  • BS/BA degree required; Master's degree preferred in art, music, dance, recreation, or other relevant areas.
  • Certification/registration through appropriate credentialing board preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR or American Red Cross Professional Rescue certification required.
  • Ropes and Challenge Course training required.
  • Formal training in management of aggressive patients required.
  • Child/Adolescent Day Treatment program employees must meet additional requirements.
