ECU Health Beaufort Hospital, part of the ECU Health Medical Center network, is dedicated to providing exceptional healthcare services in our community. This facility operates as a comprehensive 142-bed hospital, offering a wide array of inpatient and outpatient services including medical, surgical, intensive care, emergency, pediatrics, and women's health services. Our hospital also features specialized departments such as a laboratory, diagnostic imaging, and both physical and respiratory therapy. Additionally, we house the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center, which provides advanced chemotherapy and radiation therapy options.

Position Overview

The Physical Therapist I plays a crucial role in delivering direct patient care through assessment and treatment tailored to the specific needs of our diverse patient population. This position emphasizes continuous professional development and collaborative teamwork within a multidisciplinary environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver direct patient care by assessing, establishing goals, designing treatment plans, executing therapeutic interventions, and modifying treatment strategies as necessary. Engage in discharge planning and provide education to patients and caregivers based on individual qualifications and patient needs.
  • Ensure the safety of patients during treatment sessions and maintain awareness of overall safety conditions in the treatment areas. Report any unsafe conditions to the appropriate management personnel.
  • Complete all documentation accurately and in a timely manner, adhering to established policies. Foster effective communication with healthcare team members and patients, tailored to their age and background.
  • Meet established clinical productivity benchmarks while actively pursuing opportunities for professional growth through participation in training sessions and continuing education. Share acquired knowledge with colleagues to enhance team capabilities.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures, attending mandatory meetings and assisting in the orientation of new staff members.

Engagement in Program Development

Actively participate in setting program goals and objectives, budget planning, staff utilization, quality improvement initiatives, and overall program development.


  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation from an APTA accredited Physical Therapy program with a Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctoral degree.
  • Less than three years of licensure experience.
  • Possession of a current valid license or eligibility for licensure in Physical Therapy by the North Carolina Board of Physical Therapy Examiners.
