With moderate supervision, this position is responsible for conducting standardized laboratory tests of construction and maintenance materials to ensure conformity with applicable specifications and quality control standards.

Examples of Work

The following examples are intended only as illustrations of various types of work performed. No attempt is made to be exhaustive. Related, similar, or other logical duties are performed as assigned. The Department may require employees to perform functions beyond those contained in job descriptions. The Department may modify job descriptions based on Department needs. The Arkansas Department of Transportation is an "at will" employer.

  • Prepare material samples for testing.
  • Perform tests on material samples.
  • Fill out test report forms.
  • Perform basic mathematical computations necessary to complete test reports.
  • General laboratory and cleaning duties.
  • Assist in cross-training technicians from other labs on test methods within area of expertise.


Minimum Requirements

Education and experience: The educational equivalent to a diploma from an accredited high school.

: Basic math skills. Ability to train others.

Physical requirements: Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

Working conditions: Laboratory environment.

Licenses, registrations and certifications: Must obtain certification in Basic Aggregate Testing by the Technician Program at the Center for Training Transportation Professionals, or equivalent certification within one year of hire. Failure to obtain the certification within the allotted time period may result in demotion or immediate termination.
