Coulter Center for Translational Research is seeking a talented and motivated Part-Time Design Engineer to assist faculty and trainees in advancing translational research and innovation. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise, creativity, and a collaborative spirit to support the design, prototyping, and accelerated commercialization of translational medical and related technologies. This role involves working closely with interdisciplinary teams to translate concepts into functional products through supporting research and educational activities.

Key Responsibilities:
* Collaborate with faculty, trainees, and research teams in the Schools of Medicine and Engineering to assist in the design and development of medical devices and other related technologies.
* Create 2D and 3D designs and technical drawings using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
* Assist in the prototyping of devices, utilizing tools such as 3D printing and other rapid prototyping techniques. Guide product development to ensure functional safety requirements including DFMA, scalability, and regulatory compliance (e.g., FDA, ISO).
* Support the preparation of reports, presentations, and documentation for project meetings, grant applications, and publications. Manage budgeting, resource allocation, and documentation for faculty projects.
* Develop and deliver workshops on FDA regulations, CAD, 3D printing and other prototyping methods, DFMA, and product development workflows.
* Co-develop Biomedical Engineering curriculums and participate in trainee course instruction.
* Provide technical guidance to trainees on design processes, material selection, project management, and manufacturing techniques.
* Support the broader University community and growth of the Coulter Center by connecting with industry experts, hosting networking events, and establishing industry partnerships.

Qualifications:
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
* Proven experience in medical device design, particularly working with cross-functional teams during early development.
* Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and familiarity with 3D printing, rapid prototyping, and other manufacturing technologies.
* Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think creatively and adaptively.
* Experience with regulatory standards for medical devices (e.g., FDA guidelines) is preferred.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, trainees, and research teams in various formats (e.g., meetings, documents, presentations).
* Flexibility to work part-time, with hours adapted to project needs and timelines.
