Diagnostic Imaging Supervisor functions in both clinical and supervisory role in the day to day operations of Diagnostic Imaging Services offered at Samaritan Healthcare and Samaritan Clinics. These functions are performed in coordination with imaging staff, Radiologists, other medical staff, nursing staff, hospital staff, peers, and customers as appropriate under the direction of the Diagnostic Imaging (DI) Director. The Diagnostic Imaging Supervisor serves as a technical resource in all area(s) of his/her expertise.

This is a full-time salary exempt position.

DIRECT REPORTS:

Direct Reports: Diagnostic radiography/ fluoroscopy, CT, Nuclear medicine, Ultrasound, and MRI professionals.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES (not limited to):

  1. Supports the DI Director in meeting the operational needs of the department including staff, productivity, budget, equipment, customer service, and patient relations. Develops and implements a policy and procedure system to facilitate departmental operations.
  2. Provides diagnostic imaging services by performing/ coordinating the services of diagnostic imaging procedures.
  3. Serves as a technical resource in Diagnostic radiography/ fluoroscopy, CT, Nuclear medicine, Ultrasound, or MRI as applicable in the area of expertise.
  4. Meets radiology operational standards by implementing image quality improvement methodology, patient-service standards; resolving problems; identifying system improvements.
  5. Supports the DI Director in improving patient care by resolving operational issues.
  6. Works closely with DI Director, radiologists, radiology technologists, and ancillary staff; in order to improve and maintain quality assurance programs.
  7. Improves quality results by evaluating accuracy and quality of images, providing technical assistance, and implementing new techniques as needed.
  8. Provides statistical reports in a timely manner.
  9. Resolves billing issues and unresolved imaging order issues in a timely manner.
  10. Provides a safe environment by monitoring radioactive exposure of staff and patients; keeping staff and patients safe.
  11. Serves as a liaison for school affiliation opportunities for clinical rotation opportunities.
  12. Prepares students for technical responsibilities by coordinating clinical rotations and training for radiology technology students.
  13. Serves and protects the hospital community by ensuring adherence to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal and Washington state requirements.
  14. Coordinates work schedule with DI Director to assure appropriate staffing coverage.
  15. Supports and coordinates with central scheduling staff to ensure scheduling of imaging exams/procedures in a timely manner.
  16. Performs actions that demonstrate accountability. Exercises safe judgment in decision-making. Practices within legal and ethical guidelines.
  17. Demonstrates competency in ability to care for diverse customers/patients populations across the age continuum.
  18. Ensures no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies. This includes, but is not limited to: security and safety, understanding of MSDS, equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting and body mechanics.
  19. Ensures self-compliance with organization policies and procedures, as well as labor agreements.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (not limited to):
  1. Education:
    1. Graduate of AMA and JCERT two (2) year Radiologic Technology program.
    2. Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  1. Experience:
    1. Five (5) years post graduate with minimum three (3) years in acute care/hospital setting.
    2. Three (3) years supervisory or management experience preferred License
  2. Licensure:
    1. ARRT, NMTCB, ARDMS or ARMRIT Registered; Washington State Radiologic technology license (within 6 months); expertise or credentialed in one other modality.
    2. Multi-modality trained/certified technologist preferred.
  3. Certification
    1. Basic Life Support Heart Saver (HS) level to be completed within three (3) months of hire.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Occasional standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling. Proficiency in manipulating small tools and operating delicate equipment, such as adjusting imaging machines or handling radiographic films.
  2. Lifting/pushing 50 lbs. Ability to set up equipment and position patients for procedures.
  3. Excellent eyesight and color vision is required to accurately interpret images and operate equipment.
COMPETENCIES:
  1. Knowledge of Washington State nuclear medicine regulations and knowledge of PACS preferred.
  2. Demonstrated leadership skills in training and guiding employees on radiology modality techniques; motivates and inspires staff to improve services.
  3. Ability to organize assigned staff and unit operations in an efficient and effective manner.
  4. Skills to coordinate schedules of the patient, doctor, technologists, and nurse to serve the patient in a timely manner.
  5. Ability to train the staff and delegate tasks to ensure timely completion of tasks in a complex, challenging environment.
  6. Skills to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues and software malfunction in order to contact appropriate service personnel; demonstrated ability to solve problems and suggest solutions within defined procedures and policies through critical thinking
  7. Verbal and written communication skills to explain technical radiology concepts, actively listen, persuade and advise.
  8. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
