Description: Salesforce DevOps Engineering Manager Job Context: The role performs IT Leadership functions within the development projects, including defining the objectives, liaising with the relevant stakeholders/end users to identify scope of work, oversee quality control throughout the software development life cycle, acquiring resources and coordinating efforts of developers (both internally or externally through 3rd party vendors), to deliver applications or changes to applications that support the function of the Schools Systems division. Job Purpose: The DevOps Engineering Manager is accountable for providing system development plans and solutions that meet the current and future needs of the company based on state-of-the-art technologies. This person takes the ownership of the company's Salesforce platform and develops the roadmap in terms of future growth, migration to Lightning, implementing CI/CD and establish end to end SDLC process for development teams. Key result area, Responsibilities and Accountabilities, KPI’s 1.Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to define the development objectives • Work closely with stakeholders and broader IT team to understand system functional and non-functional requirements • Evolve existing applications and architecture in various areas as needed • Development roadmap signed off by relevant stakeholders 2.Exercise best in class process control • Effectively design CI/CD pipeline and end to end SDLC to drive system development. • Process control documents and milestone accomplishments 3.Devise and implement quality assurance strategy • Define QA process to ensure that all systems are tested systematically to avoid deviation from specification • All required tested should be conducted and all defected are tracked and re-tested until the problems are resolved or accepted as manageable risks / or non-critical bugs • QA processes and procedures are fully defined and followed which include functional testing, performance testing, security testing, system testing and UAT testing etc. • UAT sign off on system performance 4.Coordinate development planning • Mark releases in code archives, prepare and test installers, write and distribute release notes and ensure all relevant stakeholders have access to new release while ensuring that old releases are properly managed to prevent confusion. 5.Execute system deployment • Ensure sites are ready to receive new releases. • Establish processes for reporting issues and to roll back the release with minimal downtown • Provide briefing and training for users to receive new releases • Successful rollout of new releases according to pre-agreed release timelines with stakeholders. • Sign off on system handover 6.Drive flawless project execution • Oversee SDLC ensuring adherence to project plan and development standards • Interface and coordinate tasks with internal and external technical resources to ensure all requirements are met • Helps project team recognise and mitigate any risk to existing business processes or to the solution’s overall success • May be involved in training to make sure the solution will be supported and maintained appropriately after implementation is complete • Help broader developer team to resolve technical issues. • Timely accomplishment of milestones as per project plan. 7.Provide thought leadership and subject matter expertise on Schools Systems development methodologies, deliverables • Keeps up to date on industry trends and technology development where it relates to applications being developed for the Schools Systems. • Research and recommend new technical opportunities • Fosters a culture of continuous improvement in all areas of technology • Provide updates to the broader team. • Application development status reports comprising updates and reviews on stability, functionality and capacity along with recommendations for system modifications where required. • Subject matter update on trends and technological development related to tools, language, framework. 8.Manage development budgets efficiently and effectively. • Build and monitor development budget closely, outlining deviations promptly to cost centre owners. • Budget compliance Quantitative information/ Scope of the job / Degree of supervision / Authorization levels o Responsible for development of all the systems in Schools Systems, particularly the core application: Salesforce o Manages development contracts with 3rd party vendors • People data: 4-6 direct reports. Responsible for the school system development work provided by IT and business stakeholders Decision Making: • Decisions relating to software development in Schools Systems. Research and analyze both strategic and tactical choices and make recommendations related to rendering best-in-class system support strategies • Offer suggestions and make final decisions regarding the best way to implement changes to Schools Systems. • Offer suggestions and make recommendations relating to systems development issues management and software change management processes and best practice • Offer suggestions and recommendations to improve application development and operational efficiencies Requirements: knowledge, skills and experience • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience • 10 years’ experience working through the design, development, release cycle and delivering applications to end users • 7+ years’ experience in managing a team that focuses on Salesforce implementation and configuration • Proven ability to quickly learn new applications, processes, and procedures • Able to find root causes of problems and quickly determine efficient solutions • Extensive skills in troubleshooting a wide range of technology-related systems using a range of technical skills and knowledge • Multi-tasking capable (individual will be responsible for multiple systems), and highly flexible • Demonstrated record of successful delivery of software applications as an individual, team leader and/or development manager • Experience in Scrum methodology and Agile practices • Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities • Experience in working with software vendors • Prior experience in Education a plus but not a pre-requisite • Strong logical and analytical thinker • Strong technical support documentation skills. Strong interpersonal and consultative skills. • Ability to balance best practices with solutions • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language. • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment and exercise independent judgment and initiative.
