Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Supervises and directs full and part-time staff. Includes training, assigning, coaching, reviewing, and planning the work of others. Recommends hiring, personnel actions and salary adjustments. Tracks required certifications of staff.
  • Plans, coordinates and schedules assigned programs and events. Works collaboratively with the Athletics Supervisor and staff to review, enforce, and develop program goals, policies and procedures. Maintains program operating and safety records. Coordinates registration process for programs.
  • Oversees adult athletics programs that the Town offers. Also oversees indoor and outdoor youth leagues and tournaments offered at the Miller Athletic Complex (MAC). Responsible for responding to complaints and administering disciplinary action of players, including ejections and suspensions.
  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Town’s outdoor adventure offerings, races, and youth athletic camps. Ensures a variety of outdoor programs for residents to enjoy. Offers Town-run races and coordinates with third parties on administrative issues for private race offerings. Assists with running larger events. Offers half and full-day athletics camps in the summer and over school breaks. Develops camp curriculum and ensures all state rules and regulations are followed.
  • Oversees adaptive recreation programs and works with non-profit organizations to increase program offerings. Manages grant fund application, tracking and documentation.
  • Manages field rentals by creating and updating a booking system that allows for teams, families or leagues to reserve time on the Town’s fields. Serves as point person in implementing contracts with private businesses regarding facilities usage. Ensures renters follow policies and procedures.
  • Monitors effectiveness of safety and emergency response practices.
  • Prepares annual budget for assigned areas. Assists in establishing appropriate program and user fees. Monitors expenditures and revenues. Develops plans for increasing sales and new revenue streams.
  • Collects fees in association with field rentals, batting cages, and registration. Responsible for deposits and prepares revenue reports as prescribed by Town policy.
  • Purchases supplies and equipment and prepares purchase orders, bid requests, and vouchers for supplies and service on recreation equipment.
  • Establishes and maintains vendor and sub-contractor relationships for various recreation department services.
  • Resolves and responds to complex complaints and inquiries regarding recreation facilities, programs, and policies. Provides customer service to vendors, customers, tourists, large scale users, and citizens. Provides information regarding general information, program registration, field and facility rentals, development of player rosters, and practice and game schedules.
  • Coordinates and assists with various recreational special events.
  • Develops and prepares marketing programs and materials including Recreation Guide information, brochures, flyers, advertisements and promotional information.
  • Prepares correspondence and maintains records. Develops reports as needed. Prepares program specific communications and conducts meetings for coaches, officials and participants.
  • Provides emergency care as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Qualifications:

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Administration or a closely related field.

Experience: At least four (4) years' professional experience in recreation management that includes at least two (2) years of supervision; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Licenses and/or Certifications Required:
  • Valid Colorado Driver's License
  • CPR, First Aid and Universal Precautions training/certification required or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of recreation administration, including program development, budgeting, and marketing.
  • Skill in supervising and directing the work of others. Ability to plan, organize, train, and supervise employees in a manner that results in fully competent employee performance.
  • Skill in providing exceptional customer service and interacting with the public and program participants, even in highly charged situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Ability to analyze and utilize a variety of advisory data and information such as customer feedback, market data, expense and revenue information to recommend action.
  • Ability to perform and apply mathematics used for budgeting, developing and collecting fees, reporting, and other duties.
  • Ability to perform safety procedures, and skill in performing CPR and first aid.
  • Ability to apply Town standards and policies to oversee operational aspects of the Town’s recreational programs and facilities.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships.
  • Ability to drive to and physically access various sites including fields, parks and Athletic facilities to conduct meetings, review and evaluate programs and projects.
Physical Demands:
  • Occasional physical work lifting no more than 10 pounds
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, walking and standing
  • Occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer and office equipment
  • Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information
  • Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens
Work Environment:
  • Works primarily in a clean, comfortable environment
Equipment Used:
  • Uses general modern office equipment, to include, keyboard, 10-key adding machines, and telephones
  • This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment
