Senior Accountant

Position Description
Selene is seeking a qualified candidate for the Senior Accountant position ("Senior"). This position will work exclusively on certain residential credit private equity funds. Reporting to the Assistant Controller of the funds, the successful candidate will manage and/or assist with various finance, accounting, tax, and reporting activities for the funds serviced by Selene. The ideal candidate will be familiar with the accounting and operations for residential mortgage loans and real estate owned ("REO") assets. The Senior will play a supporting role in the quarterly and annual financial statement close process, which includes working side-by-side with the fund administrator. In addition, the Senior will assist with various audit and tax requests as well as multiple lending relationships the funds have with large institutions. The Senior will be expected to maintain a strong internal control environment and will also be responsible for ensuring that all critical processes are conducted in accordance with the fund's documented policies and procedures. The ideal candidate must be inquisitive, a self-starter, and be comfortable operating in a dynamic, fast paced, and entrepreneurial environment. This position will provide exposure to many different areas of the business, including close interaction with multiple third-party vendors, and has the potential for responsibilities to expand quickly.

Responsibilities

  • Play a supporting role in the production of quarterly and annual financial statements
  • Assist the auditors and fund administrator through the quarterly financial statement preparation and annual audit
  • Prepare bank account reconciliations
  • Prepare monthly debt rolls and compliance reporting
  • Assist with the quarterly and annual tax work
  • Assist with ad hoc investor questions and periodic investor reporting
  • Support the know-your-client "KYC" process for new business relationships
  • Maintain and review internal general ledger data
  • Participate in various projects to help strengthen internal controls and/or create efficiencies
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, or equivalent business experience
  • Accounting experience: 3-5 years
  • Self-starter comfortable operating in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment with evolving roles and responsibilities
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Preference will be given to candidates with the Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designations or MBA degree
  • Strong preference will be given to candidates with relevant residential mortgage loan / REO accounting and operations experience
  • Preference will be given to candidates with relevant private equity fund accounting experience
  • Preference will be given to candidates with SQL and Tableau knowledge
  • Microsoft Office (particularly strong in Microsoft Excel)
