Excelsior Wellness Center is looking for a Peer Support Specialist to join our VIEW telehealth program.

As a Peer Support Specialist within the VIEW program, you play a crucial role in our mission to promote mental, emotional, and physical well-being in the community. You bring your lived experience, and a deep understanding of the challenges individuals face in their journey to wellness. Your role is to provide peer support, empathy, and encouragement to individuals who may be experiencing mental health or substance use issues. Your daily interactions with our clients significantly impact them by offering them hope, connection, and the knowledge that recovery is possible. Your role requires active listening, compassion, and the ability to foster a non-judgmental, supportive environment.

How to Qualify:

  • Minimum High School diploma or equivalent; bachelor's degree in relevant field preferred.
  • Registered Agency Affiliated Counselor Credential or ability to become registered within 60 days required.
  • Has completed, or can complete, specialized training provided or contracted by Washington State Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery in becoming a Certified Youth or Family Peer Counselor.
  • Minimum one year experience working and/or volunteering directly with youth.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of staff and clients.
  • Ability to calmly and repetitively model appropriate behaviors and challenging situations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make ethical and safe decisions.
  • Ability to manage individual stress and perform essential job functions in a safe and professional manner.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check, per organizational standards.
  • Must be 21 years or older.
Core Responsibilities:
  • Provide peer support and a safe, non-judgmental environment for clients.
  • Actively listen to clients' experiences, challenges, and goals.
  • Offer empathy, encouragement, and practical strategies for coping and recovery.
  • Collaborate with the clinical and counseling teams to enhance client care.
  • Review client progress and provide ongoing support.
  • Continuously develop your peer support skills through training and self-improvement.
  • Maintain documentation of client interactions and progress.
  • Assist in the development of recovery-focused initiatives and programs.
