The Senior Counsel reports to an Assistant General Counsel, assisting on a broad range of corporate and commercial healthcare matters. This includes working on a wide variety of healthcare and commercial contracts, healthcare operations, and regulatory matters. This position is remote, but the legal team is located in Houston, Texas and a local candidate is preferred. If not located in Houston, Texas, some travel to Houston will be required.

Job Qualifications

Education:

  • JD Degree and a member of any state bar (Texas preferred)
Experience:
  • At least 5+ years of experience, with at least 2 years of law firm experience and at least 2 years of in-house experience.
  • Previous healthcare contracts experience required.
  • Previous healthcare operations experience preferred.
  • Previous experience advising companies on a full range of corporate transactions.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Health Law background required.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Responsible, accountable, self-starter and results driven.
  • Highly motivated, eager to help, and able to manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Able to make sound risk judgments, working with colleagues to find an appropriate solution to enable work to move forward.
  • Pleasant, diplomatic disposition, sense of humor, ability to adapt, and collaborative working style
  • "Work smarter, not harder" mentality and ability to utilize technology and tools to be more efficient and reduce busy work.
Transportation: Reliable transportation. Valid and current auto insurance.

Environmental and Working Conditions:

Works in a routine office environment. Noise level may be moderately high. Ability to work a flexible schedule with extended hours. Ability to travel locally with some exposure to inclement weather. Must have reliable transportation, valid and current driver's license and auto insurance.

Physical and Mental Effort:

Prolonged sitting and some standing is required. Occasional need to lift, pull, carry and push items weighing up to 50 lbs. Frequent need to stoop, kneel, and reach while accessing files. Requires working under some stressful conditions to meet deadlines and agency needs. Requires excellent problem-solving skills.

Essential Functions:
  • Serve as senior counsel for Traditions Health.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including facility, medical director, independent contractor, nursing home, service, procurement, IT, consulting, and confidentiality agreements.
  • Manage vendor risk assessment and analysis with other business teams.
  • Review, evaluate, and advise on the risk and impact of regulatory changes to clinical and corporate operations.
  • Draft, review, and update patient and employee forms and a wide variety of clinical and corporate policies and procedures.
  • Improve processes for efficient and streamlined operations surrounding contract review and electronic contract repository management.
  • Manage litigation, nursing board complaints, and third-party subpoenas.
  • Perform legal research and provide business minded solutions and advice.
  • Advise the medical records department on requests for release of records across 18 states.
  • Supervise outside counsel as needed.
