This role demands a seasoned professional skilled in lean design, guiding multidisciplinary teams, mentoring top-tier talent, and driving the product design process. The Director, Product Design will balance a refined design aesthetic with pragmatic product development experience in an agile environment to drive design excellence and efficiency. ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties and responsibilities satisfactorily. The accountabilities listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required. Provide clarity and vision for product initiatives by facilitating critical conversations and workshops with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders. Collaborate with Product and Engineering leaders to define product strategy and lean design roadmaps. Design innovative solutions and features by producing UX flows, wireframes, low-fidelity and high-fidelity UI designs, and interactive prototypes. Collaborate closely with engineers to define design requirements and acceptance criteria for user stories. Provide design QA as part of the Scrum process to ensure product quality and consistency. Coach direct reports to successfully execute the full design process from discovery to engineering handoff while fostering a design practice driven by collaboration, transparency, and rapid iteration. Mentor and nurture the product design team, promoting continual growth and fostering industry-leading expertise. Effectively manage the placement and utilization of individuals on the product design team, coordinating with the senior directors of Product and Engineering. Evolve and streamline the product design process, ensuring that it supports rapid iteration and effective solutions without sacrificing quality. Manage the UI design system to improve product consistency and accelerate the product development cycle. Establish and promote design guidelines, best practices, and standards across product suites. Build and maintain robust relationships across the organization to facilitate seamless feedback loops for discovery and validation. Establish and maintain relationships with our users to keep them involved in the product design process. Provide an oversight role in aligning the software user documentation to the products; delivering high-quality writing; and using the most current methods for information delivery. Facilitate system and feature rollout feedback gathering from clients. Seed and promote a culture that embraces the concepts of lean, agile, scrum and continuous innovation. Grow a culture of design innovation across the organization, significantly enhancing user experience while solving complex user and business requirements. Other duties as assigned by supervisor. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Human-Computer Interaction, UX & Product Design, Computer Science, or related field QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 10 years of software product-related experience in an Agile/Scrum development process with an emphasis in user experience and user interaction design, preferably in the Pharmaceutical / Healthcare / Life Sciences industry Minimum of 8 years of experience implementing or leading the development and rollout of systems used by hundreds of thousands of end users either in a B2B or B2C manner Minimum of 2 years of people management experience with proven leadership skills, managing, engaging, and training a team both in person and remotely Strong public portfolio of impactful sites or platforms, and interaction design in proven solutions that are in the market Excellent visual design sensibilities Able to solve complex problems with creativity and enthusiasm Comfortable creating richly interactive prototypes, wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows and site maps Proficient in the principles of information architecture, with the ability to present complex data and information in designs which are visually easy to understand and navigate Able to use verbal and written communication to orient, align, engage, and influence others including technical staff, management, decision makers and users Strong knowledge of web and mobile, driven by decentralized data construction technologies and evolving design trends Must be able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment akin to early and mid-stage technology startups SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Overall responsibility of management including direction, coordination, performance, and evaluation of the assigned team and staff. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
