Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience or equivalent expertise programming in multiple object-oriented or functional programming languages
  • 3 years of experience with scripting languages, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration languages
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in computer science, information technology or a related field
  • Expertise building and deploying applications with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Microsoft Azure or across multiple on-premises data centers
  • Expertise with containerization
  • Experience with implementing improvements in areas such as maintainability, scalability, availability, extensibility and security
  • Expertise with distributed tracing, application performance monitoring, diagnostic tooling and the golden signals
  • Experience in applying distributed architecture design principles for high-performing, scalable software and services
  • Experience maintaining, monitoring and recovering technical components, such as software applications, relational and non-relational databases, messaging systems and service-oriented architectures (SOA)
  • Experience implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) tooling
  • Working knowledge of information security best practices
  • Ability to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation for production support
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional-tier certification in AWS (Solutions Architect or DevOps Engineer), GCP (Cloud Architect or Cloud DevOps Engineer) or Microsoft Azure (DevOps Engineer Expert or Azure Solutions Architect Expert)
  • Command of network protocols and theory, such as Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), the Domain Name System (DNS), the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model and load balancing
  • Experience improving platform resiliency, as well as incident response and resolution
  • Conceptual, development and production support expertise with orchestration and abstraction platforms
  • Expertise building and supporting production services for a large-scale Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) application
  • Expertise facilitating technical/architectural deliberations and trade-off analyses for decisions that cross multiple domains
  • Experience in a production multi-cloud architecture
Job Summary

As a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) for Rocket Mortgage, you'll combine your operational systems experience with your software engineering knowledge to support the design, implementation, maintenance and enhancement of complex systems that span multiple services and applications. In this role, you'll work directly with engineering teams throughout all phases of the system lifecycle to maximize the reliability and security. You'll also provide advanced support for technical issues, responding across the technology stack and involving systems experts as needed. As a student of best practices for scalable and resilient systems, You'll contribute to the improvement of engineering practices in their assigned area.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as technical lead for deep dives to identify solutions to prevent future incidents
  • Troubleshoot production incidents that may span across multiple teams, services and code bases
  • Maintain composure and focus on collaborative solutions during incidents and in blameless retrospectives
  • Guide, measure and contribute to the relentless improvement of software development and operations
  • Act as a thought leader in the iterative creation of fault-tolerant and scalable software
  • Design with consideration of constraints and non-functional requirements (NFRs), such as availability, security and performance
  • Collaborate across teams to manage security concerns and improve overall system security
  • Stay informed of trends and changes in the broader technology landscape
  • Mentor and support team members on any of the above responsibilities
